Have been doing similar this week, using a cheap usb capture device.
Use virtual dub to capture the video to avi and then ending up with an mp4.
VHS video is pretty low resolution to nothing too fancy is needed to capture the signal.
I used one of the below in conjunction with a scart converter.

ps in the UK they are generally called nutserts, rivnuts is an american term.You can pick the less sophisticated ones up fairly cheaply.

Probably the Royal George, not strictly Walton but not too sure that I would recommend either The Swan or The Anglers along the river. Not really pubs but restaurants that serve beer.
The Weir further along the river is much the same but slightly more "pubby".

I would have used the word fluted as opposed to splined to describe the tubing. But not quite correct either.
