Lots of confusion over this on the Garmin forum. Apparently if you own OS maps or City Navigator or whatever you should be able to install them into Basecamp. However Basecamp cannot read the SD or MSD cards, meaning you have to call Garmin and get them to post you a DVD.
Seems like a fail to me.
There is a way to convert the .img file on the sd card to be readable by basecamp using gmaptool and cgpsmapper.
Essentially these split the .img file into tiles and also create an installer for them for mapsource or basecamp. -
Sorry wrong link but the link I sent you is useful for other functions i.e. custom maps for you to create, here is the link to install openstreetmap and velomaps if you have img files

I have a directory called Garmin with 334mb of something.... double click and it starts to verify etc but no file names I can see.
Reformat the card.
Follow the guide here

I do and have. The card has the velomaps but the edge doesn't give me the option of using them - only the original basemaps are shown not the newly loaded OSM on the card.
I think when I look back on my life I will recognise this as the point I became an old cunt surpassed by technology.
Can you please tell me the name of the velomap file and also its location on the card. It should be directly in the garmin directory.
Please see my previous advice with regard to reformatting the card (after moving the files off it)

I've ridden the section from Richmond through to Brooklands (it's part of my off road commute when I'm feeling brave and it's not wet). All towpath, easy riding suitable for almost any bike. I got lost in Weybridge the first time through where you change from the Thames to the canal. That change is a bit fiddly and I'm not sure how much GPS will help too much so I'd recommend you have a close look at the map first (or recce). Not the biggest deal in the world if you run the roads for a mile or so to get back to the canal.
Great info.
I really wondered about the time, I think it's a full day... early morning till very late evening. With stops, potentially 9-12 hours. Just because we're not going to get an average of 12mph across the distance and once you throw in drink and piss stops it will inevitably be longer.
I have ridden this on a hybrid type bike up to about the 30 mile point.
Whilst the pathway is none too rugged; due to the amount of pedestrian traffic you will do well to average anything more than about 7-8mph for the first section, although it does get quieter after the path splits under the M25

Does anyone know a way to quick release dynamo lights? I've seen the QR bolts but the wire is the problem since it is fixed to the light.
I'll soon have 2 bikes with dynamo hubs and would rather not have to rewire all the time. I have a good light I'd like to use it on both bikes instead of forking out for a second one. It would also help to prevent theft.
I guess a normal spade connector could work but those are usually shrink wrapped to keep out rain - not sure if it would be good to expose the electrical connection to the elements?
Look for watermate connectors, not cheap

Any decent way, apart from inverse shim haha, to stretch a stem clamp diameter e.g. from 25.4 to 26mm?

Can someone help me with this track.
http://connect.garmin.com/course/639907#
My problem is that it has too many trackpoints for my etrex.
Can someone copy it to mapmyride, bikely etc as a shared route so that I can download and edit the gpx file directly. Probably needs an edge series 800 or so to do it. -

Headset on my new bike came with a small little ring that seems to fit perfectly into the upper part of the top headset, but doesnt go over the steerer. Its very close to fitting over but I don't want to force it.
Whats it for, do I need it, do I just use a bit of force? Is it rubber/plastic? if so it should be a tight fit as it is a watertight seal!
