The VW Beach is more like an MPV with a fold out sink/cooker, and a pop top. Which is very close to perfect for me I think.

I think the aging transit would lose almost all its value, so not really a good idea.

If we consider a future wherein I have a job again then I’d like to get a vehicle to leave in the UK for use when I’m in the UK/Europe - and I’ve come to the conclusion that a van type vehicle is the most practical for me, largely due to being able to keep bikes inside, plus tools and so on, plus of course my stuff.

It would however be desirable to be able to sleep in said van if/when required, so a pop-top bed would be nice. I’m thinking along the lines of a VW California Beach. But I don’t want to pay £!, and they all seem to have stuck at their Covid adjusted price.

So - is there a reckoning coming? Or are the new values the new normal?

Nature abhors a vacuum- if not the LD’s then the Greens maybe? If the Tories reconstitute from the wreckage under say Braverman or Badenoch they’ll be unable to position themselves as Centre-Right to voters, much as they lie about it to themselves.

If they’re canny the Ld’s should move to become the natural home of the centre-right voter. That leaves the tories to keep hitting the lunatic juice and trying to outdo Reform, or head back to the centre but then have to come up with some way of differentiating themselves other than “we are the party of grifting incompetents”.

The instant deflection to that question is “you’ll regret it when labour get in” or some variation on the theme that however bad the Tories are you have to vote for them because Labour are worse.

One chap I spoke to a couple of years ago said that Labour had always left the country worse off than when they got into power, something which the current Tory administration has very much said “hold my beer” to.
