You're right (being serious - what a a miserable twat I am). On the whole cyclists are a miserable species. 20 years ago I saved up really hard after working the summer in a shitty factory and bought a Condor 531 frame. I then went out with my local cycling club and had one guy come up to me and say "nice bike, let's hope you can cycle". Even to this day, I see a fat bloke on his Pinarello going in the opposite direction and who refuses to acknowledge that I exist. Thank god that wasting time on here is fun!

Markyboy, newbie myself. Had £400 to spend and no more ;-(
Bought a Langster (not a city version). No, it's not popular but thought that it represented reasonable value. Looked at others, but then started to think that if I had another £100 I could get a Flyer, another £50 a Pearson and on it went... If I get on with the Langser (so far, so good) I'll ebay it and upgrade... -

Well.... as I say, it's some years since I was dealing with personal injury claims. In UK law, negligence is determined as what can reasonably forseen by the the ordinary man. As such, each accident needs to be judged on its own merits. If for example, you were travelling down a cycle lane at 10mph past a queue of stationary cars and one turned into your path, you might argue that the driver owed you a duty of care and as such was fully responsible (he/she would need to ensure the road was clear before they completed their manouvere and should be aware of the cycle lane). On the other hand, you hacking down the inside of cars at 25mph might suggest that you shoul be mindful of the danger of cars turning ahead of you... no simple answer I'm afraid....

Having worked as a personal injury lawyer some years ago (10 to be precise - so things might have changed). You are OK time wise - in civil cases you have 3 years to present a claim if you suffered an injury - which clearly you did! You must go to your GP in the next couple of days and explain about the anxiety you have suffered since. You can go to a solicitor - but they may not want to take up the case if they can't recover their costs. I would photo the damaged parts, get quotes for replacements - oh, and is the frame structurally safe anymore? After all, they're not designed to be run over...
Whisper me (is that how you do things on here?) if you want anymore info/help...

About 15 years ago I was coming back from a club ride, cycling alongside another rider. Alll of a sudden this white Escort starts sounding its horn and trying to overtake - I turn around to see the driver waving wildly at me. At this moment the old ginger gene takes over and I tell the driver to fuck off etc... He overtakes and stops in the middle of the road. Can't get around him so stop as well. He then gets out of the car in his uniform - special cuntstable! Tells me that he's going to arrest me, told him to do it and that if he did I'd sue him for false arrest. Get back in his car and on his way...
Having said that, while I was at Uni Brighton Police had cops on mountain bikes, one of which was a UK mountain bike champion - not many people tended to outrun him.

For my sins, I bought a Wrongster today (not the white shite one though). As a first foray into the world of single speed/fixed it seems reasonable - I couldn't afford more than £400, and as soon as I looked above that it was getting into the realms of if only I had £50 more I could get... etc, etc...
Evans has got a 10% Easter discount so it cost £360, so I was happy - apart from being treated like a dick, by some spotty twat.
Providing that my choice has not made me an instant pariah (is that spelt right?) look forward to meeting up at some FGSS events...

Thanks for the comments so far, really appreciated! Genesis flyer was not on my horizon - so thats a new bike to look at. The Pista is something that I've looked at before, but dismissed as it wasn't road spec. However, I've got an old road bike in the garage, so I guess I could transfer a Mirage f/brake etc...

Advice please, I'm a virgin poster - have f**cked my friends borrowed road bike cycling to and from work. Have decided on a fixie for the following reasons:
- Lower maintenance (spelling shite - sorry)
- I tend to lose focus when cycling, so want something to keep me focused.
- Want a decent work-out.
Decided on a Fillmore as Langster is derided - went to look at one today ;-< Heavy, battleship grey, excited me about as much as an episode of Songs of Praise. Have £450 to spend at most. Any recommendations? Is the Langster so bad? Yes I accept it's a piece of American shite, but can it be that bad for a first time fixie?
- Lower maintenance (spelling shite - sorry)

Thought i'd made a friend on here but it turns out Stephanie was just spamming me to be a Buddhist ;-(
