Two crashes today at inters:
Second one was literally half a lap after when a coach (Jo) and rider touched wheels and crashed during rotations and I think the coach was in really bad shape (possibly something broken when walking back to the track)Joseph has broken his collar bone. Poor thing :(
Anyone know the rider involved? -

Tacx Track turbo trainer
Got a good lil turbo trainer. Included is the front wheel wedge thing.
Cable worn in 1 area, but doesn't affect performance or adding gears etc etc. All works perfectly. PM me offers...as I have no idea...?
Carbon drop bars
Great except for bartape residue, which is easy to get rid of. These are 42 wide. Again, no idea what to ask for these, so PM me offers?

So...I've taken stock of the damage to my bike after last weeks crash:
Bent frame, bent cranks, bent chaining, bent saddle, cracked helmet, headset now feeling gritty and tight in some places.
My steed is a tank, so the damage is pretty impressive! If anyone is selling any of these things at a reasonable price please PM me. You would be brightening my week :)

This is just something that I don't get at all. I'm a reasonably strong cyclist and have been doing group riding on the road for years - I still did every single basic session and induction this year before going to Monday's, even though i had done basics etc last year. Mainly because I was worried about being a liability in faster sessions and wanted as much track time as possible. I then did 8-10 weeks of Monday nights before thinking about Wednesday nights. It's all paid off now as I finish at the front of, or often win C races and will be working hard over the winter before I move up to B's next year.
It makes me angry that certain people don't seem to care about other riders safety and are more concerned with cutting corners and dick waving. Part of the reason I decided to race track instead of crits is because of the pathway and amount of track time necessary before you were allowed to race. I'm self-employed and I need to work to live, if I get taken out by some hairy legged masher on a Wednesday or a Monday I might not be able to pay my rent etc. I was involved in the big crash last week - and despite getting off relatively lightly, I still wasn't able to work properly again until yesterday.
This is exactly it. It does my head in!!!

Who will vouch for this sumo guy, I hear he isn't even fat. Don't know who to trust anymore!
I'm sorry, I don't know if vouching for people is an option, or if it even should be :( You could ask a coach on the day, but there is no guarantee.
Consider that there are around 50-100 riders per induction(x2), +-90 riders per beginners, and around 40-90 riders in Intermediates, every Sat alone. This is ignoring other sessions during the week, and all the weekly private hires.
It's not the coaches responsibility to 'remember' you with that volume of people, week in, and week out. Its your responsibility to get your card, have it stamped, or sort it out.
Personally if there is no stamp I would ask a coach who is there every week to sign it, or ask for 2 coaches to sign it(just to be safe) instead of getting a stamp. At least that way you can verify you did the session by showing them their signatures...
Sometimes cards run out, or the stamp goes missing, or there is nobody there to do it. Its frustrating for everyone involved, but these are reasonable situations you can speak to a coach about resolving then and there. If you forgot/lost your card, forgot to get a stamp etc then its obviously a different situation?
Its a new system this year, so realistically it needs ironing out. If someone has a genius resolution, then please share it so it can be passed onto HH-or pass it on directly at your next session :)You would simply be in awe of the amount of people that try blag their way into Intermediates, or Beginners...some riders will even avoid signing on and paying to avoid being caught out...

Ouch... I guess it's best to get back on quickly to regain confidence.
@RPM: Fair enough, didn't see him coming, should've looked properly. I did a look that was more out of habit than to actually see what was going on behind me. He could've made himself known, though. When you've been following the same wheel all morning and that rider calls "last man", it is surprising to find someone else there.
Sorry mate, RPM is right. If you are not looking for the end of the string and are accidentally moving down on people then you are not ready for Intermediates. That's usually covered in the Basic sessions. It's your responsibility to look before you move, and riders join/drop from strings all the time. If for instance you caused a crash, you would always be known as that guy that caused the crash from not looking properly. Sorry to sound harsh here, but safety first, not just yours, but those around you ;)
Cards were asked for on Sat and probably will be moving forwards. Make sure you have them on you before your next session.

I definitely agree there are too many novice mistakes happening in TL. Some racers seem to care more about glory than group safety. Alot of people that have been inducted this year are showing up for very advanced sessions, which is irresponsible and difficult for volunteers to moderate. There should definitely be more steps involved between inductions and racing...
The fact that riders who have been doing track for a few sessions are pulling into TL is clearly a self moderating failure in the 1st place. Im sorry to say, but this over-confidence has a role to play in how riders are overshooting categories, showing up for advanced sessions they are not ready for, and riding too aggressively for their own experience level. I couldn't believe it when some newly inducted's were bragging about their bike handling skills afterwards, and how they managed to stay upright over other riders! How do you give riders like that constructive feedback if they already think they have all the answers and are the next big thing? So unless I missed some bunny hopping madness over bikes and bodies while I was eating tarmac, some very experienced riders, that have been racing longer than I have even been going to track, went down in the crash! The safest place in this one was towards the back of the race, which is where it usually spreads(from what I have unfortunately seen before)? If you went down its not because you don't have good bike handling skills, it means there was nowhere to go, or you were right where the unfortunate action was. If you stayed up then you were lucky, so consider those that weren't...
So on that note is there any news from any more of the riders that went down? Fixed Cheese, Im glad you ok :)
I hope this has not put those riders off, and that they come back next year when they are healed and a new system is in place :) -
Riders don't get to choose their level. If they are doing this, they are gambling with other peoples safety! You need to win a C race, to race in the B's at the moment, and so on, and so on.
My suggestion is that before people start racing at track league, they have (at least) a season of track riding experience behind them. I find newly inducted riders are turning up for track league, as well as for more advanced sessions, making it unsafe for many other riders.
There are far too many riders racing that 1)don't look before they move 2)ride too aggressively and disregard other riders safety 3)cant even hold a wheel safely as they are hanging on for dear life with their heads down. These are basic novice skills that shouldn't need to be pointed out in, or after, a heated race. You shouldn't need to yell 'stay up' or 'stay down' every few seconds or meters!
*Administrating this would require some sort of card system that would need to be checked when signing on maybe? Also requires judges and comms picking riders up on unsafe riding. Maybe after 3DQ's you are suspended from TL? Sounds a bit schooly, but if there is a consequence then hopefully racers will pull their socks up! Again means more admin, more volunteers, or more responsibility on those volunteers.Another thing I have found is some riders are reluctant to take on constructive feedback. If you politely try and point out they nearly just killed you and another rider they seem to shrug it off or deny it?
*It would probably be better received from a judge or commissionaire than a fellow racer - again more admin and responsibility on volunteers. Nobody wants to whine to the Comms officer about another rider either, so what can the Comms do if they are not told?Youth and women categories should potentially be separate. Again, mixed abilities. What do you think would happen if an average 5.8 male shoulders smaller built riders like this out the way...or accidentally falls on them. (Youth and women also elbow and shoulder, so they have every right to be shouldered back if this happens BTW.) I think its good learning for both youth and women categories, but realize its not particularly fair on anyone involved?
*This means fewer races per evening, as it would be spread thin. Again more admin as more races need to be judged and recorded.Novice category for riders that are racing their first season, and have less than 1-2 years additional track training behind them. The C's at the moment seem to bundle youth, women, novice, new to Track League, and slower racers...part of the all inclusive problem...This problem dissolves further up the ladder...
*Would require some sort of system to administer. Also means fewer races overall on Wednesdays.Bottom line is many options would require more volunteers, and demand more from those volunteers as some riders cannot self moderate themselves with the safety of the group in mind.

Hey guys, just a reminder about how the Sat sessions are running. RPM hit the nail on the head!
Through and off, group riding.
Not beng rude, (and this goes for anyone else who isn't sure) but if you don't have experience of this, you might want to wait until spring for the track sessions, or find a friendly cycling club, go on some club runs and learn about how to ride in a bunch.Just FYI, the winter Saturday sessions are a steady 1.5 hr chain gang style session for intermediate and advanced riders. It's not going to be a carbon copy of the summer intermediate sessions.
...only thing I would add is wear some decent kit. Jeans and cardigans are for going to the movies :)
-
Ah, so that's what it was. Someone found it yesterday during the morning training session, no one claimed it so I think it got left on the podium. If you get down there tonight you might find it still there if you're lucky.
Thanks for letting me know. Sadly when I checked the podium on Sat it was gone :(

PLEASE HELP! Despite my best efforts of keeping my watch in 1 piece, I failed! So, If anyone finds a piece of a Nike watch(looks like a shiny USB with the time on it) in the center of the track(by black blocks), or up by the grassy car parking bit close to the huts then please let me know or hand to a coach/office. I would be so super-grateful I will buy you a beer/esspresso/6 pack o'kronie - you can choose :)

...2 ambulances because of the history at LV apparently, but more likely because a doctor called the emergency services. As far as I know only 2 riders went to hospital? Hoping they recover well.
