m17rennie, regarding those phantom lights on the bridge shot. It's called "ghosting." Happens with digi cameras for some reason when you have bright lights within the shot. The source of this one are the bright lights by the 4th bridge support.

Apart from obvious dodging burning here and there I though they're tastefully done for what the photographer was trying to achieve.
I prefer that rather than the usual HDR, oversharpened or compressed levels
stuff that you get on Flickr
I use the same thing albeit a Domke so probably paid for the brand name. Very versatile, especially if you have different camera bodies of different shape.

There's an abandoned bike with porteur style bars behind the Tescos express on Shoreditch Hight Street if you're in London. That style works quite well with bar-end shifters.
