I always thought that with the crop making it an 80mm 1.8, it was a perfect portrait lens. But an excellent buy in terms of cost to quality of image.

If shooting handheld, at longer focal lengths, you will need a faster shutter speed. This is why 2.8 would be better. Also good for throwing background out of focus for portraits. If you can afford it, get the 2.8. It will cope with much more varying conditions.

Thanks Macready and Nefarious. Yes, it was shot with a Mamiya 7 and 50mm. I was quite lucky with the conditions that day. The next night after that, I was convinced that my tent was going to be blown into a reservoir with me still in it.
