Welcome peteculmer, I've never ridden any of the bikes you've mentioned, but the Hanzo does not match the other two. The Hanzo is the bottom of the range Pearson bike, and I don't believe its double-butted, so its going to be heavier. Its also in a different price range to the other two. Maybe you meant the Pearson Touche?
As for handling punishment, kerbs, canal paths etc., I'd probably give my vote to the Cotic Roadrat, as the bikes are race and team tested, so that's a bonus.
Oh, +1 to what kowalski said.
-
- Avoid overtaking lorries on their left
- Check behind you before changing position on the road (e.g passing parked cars).
- Make eye contact with other road users, visibility is the only thing
- Position yourself where everyone can see you
- Get in front of trucks and buses enough so the drivers see you
- Position yourself out of the gutter so oncoming (right turning) traffic sees you
- Even behind a van/truck/bus....MAKE yourself seen, thats your responsibility
- Put a bell on your bike (use till experienced and confident)
- Put a brake on your bike (essential for most, legal for all)
- [from moving target]
http://www.movingtargetzine.com/foru...r-life/#Item_0 - Vocally make pedestrians aware of your movements
- Do not switch lanes or cut between traffic without looking for other cyclist/motorcyclist filtering down the gaps
- When passing parked cars, check over your shoulder and pull out with plenty of time.
- Over exaggerate hand signals, so everyone gets the message
- Look for opening car doors. Even better, always give them a wide berth, but see 13.
- Keep an eye on the opposite lane. White van wants to turn right and across you. Taximan doing a U-Turn.

i wear an ipod and cycle.
B, I'm assuming that you're a confident and very aware cyclist, but I'm not sure I'd be confiding to newbies, that its acceptable to do what a very experienced person does. I personally will never wear a music player and cycle in a big city, or a busy area - I don't think I have the cojones (co-ho-nes).

jallaphanti, I have 2 very young kids, and yes, its scary sometimes, but I just try not taking chances. I behave as if lorry and coach drivers actually want to kill me at every possible turn, so I am really careful, and attempt eye contact with them whenever I have to change direction.
I also give moving lorries the right of way, if their speed is above 20 MPH.
-
jallaphanti, I'm sure ed meant no disrespect of the dead. But yes, we have all jinked around something and haven't had the proper time to check behind to make sure no vehicle is coming up behind.
I personally always turn my head to try to momentarily catch the gaze of the driveer behind, before I make a turn. Its the only way I can guarantee that he/she has seen me. I can't turn my head as far to the left as to the right, so I only HOPE that I have been seen, but even so, I will still be able to hear the engine revs lower or see the car slow, before I turn.
I keep wondering why so many cyclists that are in front of me, just change lanes without looking behind. It staggers me, and scares me, every single time.
-
I'm reviving this thread, and hoping folk like Greasy Slag and others turn this into a place for newbies, and oldbies, who need to remember their mortality. Just add your advice starting from 2. and continuing.
To those who died today, in 3 places so far in London, my condolences.

gusyup, a first concussion is normally not that bad; but concussions are tricky. The brain does a good job of repairing damage without the body being too aware of the extent of the damage. Concussions are worse when they are repeated, when the cumulative damage can be severe. Falling as a child, hitting your head and blacking out, is concussion. The action of the brain hitting the inside of your skull is concussive damage, and causes brain scarring. Each concussion is easier to trigger as time and repeats occur.
Some older boxers can be knocked out by the thinnest of teenagers, because the scarring, and therefore the damage is so bad.
As the others said, step away from the bike, and go get a scan. Listen to folks that give a damn.

I confess; I love my Bowery. But at the moment, she's sick and off the road. A bit of TLC from Kiwi-Cycles and my little honey will be back on the road. Poor thing, groaning under a ton of man. :))
BUT, Giant know there's money in SingleSpeeds and have these to offer to our love-thy-gun cousins from across the pond.
Do we need to take up Smith and Wessons to get these also?Meet you at Holland and Holland.
They're called the Bowery 72 (Red), Bowery 84 (White), Bowery Mash-Up (Grey)

Winter is approaching, and 23mm tyres wont be the best for snow, muck, or worse, icy roads.
I've emboldened and underlined sizes up to 700x30, as these will be the ones that can be used for
converting many bikes with road/racer clearances, to winter pluggers/hacks. Normally 700x28 should fit EASILY.EDIT: Clefty has fitted her new Schwalbe CX Pro 700x30 to the REAR of her narrow clearance bike.
The 700x30 proved too wide at the front. Check first before buying, if a 700x28 is best, or if you can squeeze in the 700x30.Thanks Clefty!! ;)

I think its fair to say that the Royal Mail may have tested every bag maker's offerings and then decided that one beat the rest? Therefore its a probably a very strong and durable bag? This bag has been discussed before on this forum. Its a steal if gotten cheaply from a postie, or it can be got for £25.oo from here: http://www.michaellinnell.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=109&osCsid=2a47f89d2ec322cb0d85b2b9e03a0123
