the city of london police have a task force to fine cyclists. operation 'some-thing' hence lots of fines in the city. (hammersmith maybe exception).
i think this is all related is to the fact that basically roads are designed to separate pedestrians (things that are random) and vehicles (steel metal boxes that are not) - there was never any intention to accommodate cyclists. therefore enforcing the rules is like using a plaster to heal a broken leg and it is never going to work as the traffic regulations, especially in central london, are severely fucked. police are just getting pressure from the media to try to do the best they can given that the use of the highway network has completly changed however we still have exactly the same rules as 100 years ago. although the city have tired many really good cycle/pedestrain improvements.
personally i don't stop at lights but i do stop for pedestrians and smile at police when i get a fine. hopefully one day i get done for speeding then i'll frame it.

Blimey, that sounds horrible. Glad you are well enough to post. What happened? How's the bike? How long to recover? Hope you recover fully quickly.
cheers - been posting more as i'm bored at home. i have no idea what happened only thing i remember is phoning my flatmate saying that i've come off my bike and i'm at mileend - i did this over and over again as i couldn't remember doing it the time before. was about 6hours until i regained memory. face was pretty cut up but fine now the bike is also fine although i torn another pair of trousers....maybe time to invest in a sewing machine rather than building up a new bike.

drilled or not-drilled - any colour fine.
live in london fields area but work in southwark so happy to pick up anywhere central, east or south (will be in herne hill later today).

Probably more than ride risers
i just went to the 'names and faces to bikes' to do a quick survey - so far i'm at 19 risers, 6 drops and no aerobars. although it could be that those that ride aerobars take them off before putting their bikes on the forum but i doubt it.
based on this i'd probably say you were incorrect.

i came off really bad the other night - so bad i don't even know what happened. 4hours of no memory, another 2 hours getting a little bit of memory back, A&E for 3hours, a cut up face, bruise eye and thumping headache. bike ok but.
I'm now wearing a helmet as it is tough out there at this time of year for some reason.

My old bike . . . i have now kicked my Spok adiction and instead have decended into a deepcarbon aero rim binge, but part of me will forever lust after it for shamefully aesthtically related reasons alone. . .

that's a great bike in my mind - totally over the top.
I went to condor and wanted that frame and they said in a rather assertive tone - "there is so much tension in that frame it is totally non-practical for the roads and is not insurable even by the frame maker and there have been cases of them shattering - 2 i can remember". all that said i wish i'd brought it and put an aerospoke on it. -

Which bit are you trying to fit? The upper race or the locknut?
the upper race or ' upper head cone housing'
nope i saw that image on park tool's site (or sheldon brown) but it doesn't have a lip to catch and seems that the thread is getting wider on the stem (it is already well past the lip before it seizes and you can still crew but it needs loads of force.
