No, but British Cycling have, and I assume LCC and CTC. I'll be on the BC stand (so come and say hi), and we'll be making an effort to push kids towards clubs and facilities in their area - though there's little scope for adults.
not targetted at jc but people really don't get what cycling is about. people don't want to race. it is not abotu clubs, racing..etc. it is the fact that we haev a **serious **problem called gloabl warming therefore we must get people on bikes. it - in transport terms - is the only way to really reduce emissions. freewheel is helping that.
all the cycling specific clobs have a niche but that is always goin to be that. not mainstream. cycling is trasnport and it helps our society. if we set up a stall we might as well be skyfixedfor lonon. -

calling people nodders is not arrogance it is just a stereotype. alas they are normally true. people who have just started riding are a) clueless b) clueless. therefore they are nodders. we all understand what we are talking about like hipsters, twats, facists...etc it is not the actually definition that we are worried about it is the common knowlegde that a community has built up over time.

see-mi was just an example of a simlar solution to fresnal lenses that goes further if you put more resources to it. i see problems in the system as well but fresnal lenses are no where near as good. my point is that (i think) we are campaining for more resources to be dedicated to solving the problem...
i agree with seak's point - we need to come away with a clear message. then push on it.
-
what are we trying to get out of this? i assume more resources dedicated to this problem and not just lip service form dft / tfl / boroughs / freight industry. i see from lushes post the solution 'fresnal lenses' will help....i'm spetical and sounds like bit of a media stunt to me. at a couple of quid each it is not really a intregrated apporach to solving the problem. also research in denmark (serious about this problem) showed that a good % of accidents were asscioated with driver being unaware over being unable to see. potentially, it could be argued that these are good 'media spin' items which are cheap. and more serious solution would be http://www.see-mi.dk/ or similar. are not we arguing that the solutions proposed by DfT / TfL...etc are not good enough as the problem is growing?? therefore they need to dedicate more resources - and the message it 'what you're doing is not good enough so try harder...cyclists are still being killed'

Experience shows otherwise, but I'd love to think that could change.
I'm not being "snobbish" about this, some people have got the wrong idea. It's not a "freewheel" it's a SKYride, Sky want to basically "own" all forms of cycling in Britain, this being the publicity stunt that they have assimilated from the two previous years.
It cost a hell of a lot of money to publicise this, and the other rides attached to it, meanwhile girls are dying in the street under lorries, riders are being maimed and killed by missiles thrown from cars, commuters who can't afford any other means of transport face danger on a daily basis, children from inner city areas have nowhere safe to ride, and cycling facilities all over the country are fighting tooth and nail to stay alive.
Whilst I agree with and support something like a closed road circuit for a day, from where I'm standing it can seem like a lot of hypocrysy, much like critical mass which seriously dents the integrity of any protest that might and should take place.
I not sure about this. some facts are incorrect. girls arn't dying (it's people). most cyclists are actually quite wealthy and poor people tend to drive more. also, improving cycling is not just about investment in sporting facilities, and reducing the amount of missles from cars...etc. everything is interlinked, you never know one of the people who propels missles from cars may also decide that they will try to cycle ride and therefore learn that having things chucked at you is not a good idea. These kind of events - **although i f.hate the corporate crap **and agree fully with the post above on this point - do encourage people to cycle which is good. Investing money in local clubs may be a good idea but many of these facilities have been poorly managed and only now that you are seeing a general increase in cycle, are having more attention paid to them.
oh yes - further to my earlier post in canada they have a weekly closure that has three grades of closures for cyclists - novice, middle and advanced routes...! to cater for all markets.

i think this is rubbish. (though i'm supportive of anything that encourages cycling). good idea shit implementation.
they've been doing it every weekend in columbia since the 70's. paris does it everyweekend as well.

why do we need corporate sponsorship to ride traffic free on the streets? it's as easy as putting some plastic cones up to get rid of traffic. [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_steel[/ame]

good roads, good hills, good company, a good ride. purple_mj out descending at a truly frantic rate...made me laugh. legs a blur. Also at one point i looked over to andy and thought 'i didn't think he was SS' only to realise that his chain came off. composure all the way and it seems into the finish line.
and certainly some strong new riders out there.
cheers all.
