shit man. that's rough...
i know how it feels, had countless bikes nicked/vandalized over the years. it's not just the money if you've put a lot of time and effort into building something.
the police aren't going to do anything at all. you can count on that! (no disrespect to them, but bike's just aren't a priority for them).
take revenge! i reckon the idea of chaining loads of bikes to his window is excellent. there's no need to resort to vandalism or violence (although it's very tempting).
this is the kind of revenge you want! much respect to that old bloke.

i just did it!
for some reason nothing i tried even shifted it, but i eventually figured it out.
the crank was still on the adjustable cup side as i'd bent the cotter pin, so i just wedged a screwdriver in between the the crank and the raised bits on the bb cup and used the lockring to hold it in place. turned the pedals and screwdriver as hard as i could and voila!
got my front wheel on as well, although i almost broke my finger in the process!
just need to get the other cup off now. anyone tried sheldon brown's method? -
ok.
i'm at my wit's end with this bottom bracket. it's had me shouting all manner of profanities!
tapping with hammer and screwdriver... no joy
belting it with hammer and screwdriver... no joy
boiling water... no joy
WD40 (i couldn't find plus gas)... no joy
screaming at it... no joy
pleading with it... no joyi even decided to cut my losses and put the old cranks back on and live with a horrible bb bearing, but i've lost one of the cotter pins (and i know it's really hard to find new ones that fit).
anyone got a magic cure?

what's the best kind of oil to use? just wd40?
provenrad - haven't tried out that stem yet. can't be bothered to mess around with the bars just yet. gonna get the bb and wheels sorted first. i'll txt you if i've got any problems tho.

found out that i'm gonna have to wait a while to get my old carlton down to london to fix up.
so i went and got an old bike to get me on the road in the meantime.
it's an old raleigh olympus, fairly small frame, but it'll do for now.
i figured i would just put my parts on to it so it's a decent ride, then transfer them to my carlton when i get it.
just got a couple of problems though. i'm pretty new to road bikes in general so you'll have to bear with me.the cotter pin on the left crank is jammed. it moves, but won't come all the way out.
can i get away with just removing the bb from the other side?the bottom bracket is seriously jammed in there. i tried pouring boiling water on it, this helped on one side but not the other.
the fork is too narrowly spaced for my hub. how far is it safe to stretch it? and any tips?
finally, what's the best way to space out my rear hub? the rear dropouts are miles apart!
cheers.

cheers dogs, it's got something. have a bit more shopping round to do first.
funny, actually, whenever mates or I buy a bike or frame from anywhere north of birmingham we always regard it as a rescue operation - saving them from the harsh north
Cheeky sod...
I know!
Southern fairies... can't take the cold!

my mate learned about this the hard way.
we were out riding bmx a long time ago and he ended up with his bars stuck a good couple of inches into his thigh!
few centimeters to the left and he would've castrated himself!
