Do you look where you are pointing your front wheel whilst riding anywhere?
9 of my bikes have continental tires on them 7 have conti gatorskins... the last time I had a puncture, was when I did not have conti's on my bike.
shit. maybe that's where i've been going wrong.
that might help me out with my crashing problem too. i can't ride more than 100ft without hitting a car/pedestrian/building, but i thought the problems were unrelated...i did replace the tubes at the same time. i left the tape as it was in pretty good condition no sharp edges coming through or anything.
besides all the punctures i've had with these tyres have been on the outside, not even through the sidewall or anything. -

You get punctures?
When I had a gatorskin it punctured a few times. My Maxxis Refuse have never punctured.
Maxxis Refuse FTW. They're just better.
i mean, a puncture once in a while is not the end of the world. but this is pretty much every time i take my bike out.
i can't go for a long ride because i know my tyres won't take it.
never had an issue like this until i bought the gatorskins.maxxis refuse eh?

So after having my bike nicked I resurrected an old garage find of a road bike.
Nothing fancy, but it does the job (501 frame/105 groupset).I decided to replace what was left of the disintegrating 15 year old tyres with some nice new 23c Gatorskin clinchers (standard, not hardshell or folding).
Since fitting them I've had punctures almost daily. There doesn't seem to be an abnormal amount of sharp stuff on my way to work. I've been riding the same route for about two years (on inferior quality tyres) and my problems only started when I 'upgraded' to gatorskins.
My front tyre now has a 1" gash and is completely unusable after less than a hundred miles.
I've had Gatorskins recommended to my by a fair few people, some of them from this very forum.
I'm running them at about 110-120 psi (which is what conti recommends). So is it just me?
Should I be looking into other options from ga2g's magical list of tyres?

really hope someone spots it,
I think i remember seeing you ride around that area Grafton Road/Gospel Oak in the mornings during the week? (was about 8months ago though!)
eyes peeled, hope it turns upahh, are you the guy with a blue(ish) bike / blonde hair?
moved house about 8 months ago, so i don't take that route any more...i've had my eyes peeled on gumtree/ebay and round brick lane but still no joy :-(

Damn, I'm bored of this sling. And the bone seems to be fusing but is pretty uncomfortable in an occasional shooting pain kind of way. Ho hum.
Sam man, how are you doing?! It's been bare time.
I walked past the rollerskaters in Hyde Park yesterday and thought of you! No badass black 'n' white spandex-clad superdude though...
yeah man. it's been way too long. i'm doing pretty good (bike theft aside).
i've seen superdude once since then actually. he was attacking the streets somewhere central...
-
that's unfortunate. good luck getting it back and keep your eyes peeled.
also, if you're ever at the SA they let you bring your bike in to the back, so no need to leave it vulnerable
I very nearly took it through to the back! It was busy out there on account of the sun though. Kicking myself now.
You down there often? It's become a favourite of mine since did it up.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of bike theft in that area. The bike racks outside the lido are notorious for bike theives. Puts me off cycling there completely.
I hope you get it back, I am often round that area so I will keep a look out
I really wasn't expecting it tbh. I work there and used to live there. Always seemed like a reasonably safe place.
Oh well... Off to brick lane now I think.

think I saw the bike yesterday cycling down kentish town road by the sainsburys wrong way down the one way bit. Not sure of time but it might of been earlier than stolen I'm sure you can rule it out if you know you were there. Sorry can't be of much help but I hope you get it back.
that would have been me in a hurry to get to maplin...
well spotted though! thanks for posting. -
Hello FGSS people.
I've not posted much recently. It's nothing personal :-) With finishing university, starting work, etc. I've not had much time for forum lingering. And as I spend all of my working days at a computer, I try to escape the screen during my free time.
I hate to mark my return with bad news, but last night my bike was stolen. This bike meant a lot to me and was a labour of love, borne from months of scouring this forum for advice and parts.
It was taken from a council bike stand outside the Southhampton Arms on Highgate Rd in Kentish Town (map)
It went missing at some point between 6:50pm and 9:20pm on Friday 9th July.
It was locked up with a reasonably good (but obviously not that good) Specialized lock. The flexible kind with various different 'cut-proof' layers. The broken lock was not left behind and there wasn't any sign of damage to the bike stand, so I'm inclined to think it was someone a bit more professional than an opportunist kid.
I'm pretty shocked that someone took it from a busy street in broad daylight, but I guess that's just London.
I'm posting it up here in the hope that someone may spot it. If you do I would very much appreciate it if you could drop me a PM or an email at mister [dot] keating [at] gmail [dot] com
I will try to reward any help as much as I can.
Thank you all for looking.
IRO Mark V frame with a 'distinctive' paint job and a recognisable repair to the headtube which you can read all about here (check out the photos on the 2nd page)
Spinergy carbon front wheel (tubular). Currently has a 'Hudson Mohawke' sticker on it.
Rear wheel has a System Ex flip-flop hub with a 20t Condor sprocket on one side and a 16t Shimano sprocket on the other (both fixed).
Miche Primato cranks. The newer ones with the super-ugly 'Miche Advanced' chainring.
Bright red Time Atac pedals. I don't think they've made the red ones for quite a while. I've never seen anyone else with them anyway.
Ridiculous carbon super-over-sized MTB handlebars (cut down).
Black ITM Stem.
Black Fizik saddle.
Black FSA seatpost.
Generic Carbon road fork with aluminium steerer.
Miche 1/8 chain :-)
Thanks again.

Always the fucking 'we pay road tax' argument, there no such thing! It just normal tax
the 'road tax' argument is flawed on so many levels that it doesn't even deserve discussion!
what if i also own a car? what if i do pay car/road/petrol/whatever taxes?
there are countless reasons why cars cost the taxpayer more than bikes, so why the fuck should i pay to cycle along a crappy, polluted, poorly maintained, pothole-filled road with a load of angry, dangerous-driving cunts anyway?!i tell you... ;-)

i had exactly the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago (except it wasn't a cab).
this guy is taking up the whole of the asl (the green bit for bikes) at a red light, so i just ride past and stop in front of the cars (not directly in front of them, just further forwards and to the side a bit). as the lights change, this guy slams down HARD on the accelerator and screams past literally inches from my rear wheel. i shout something along the lines of OI! and wave my arms a bit (i wasn't swearing or being offensive). they guy then slows down, winds his window down and starts mouthing off at me for shouting. i say that he just nearly hit me, he says that i shouldn't have been in front of him, to which i reply that he was in the green bit where he shouldn't have been and that the whole point of the green bit is to put the cyclists in front of the traffic! he then replies that he wouldn't go in the green bit if i started paying road tax! at this point i just told him to fuck off and turned away.
the guy then swerves towards me TWICE and then drives off in front. we get a bit further down the road and i notice that he has pulled into a side street to wait for me to cycle past. he then pulls back out onto the road directly behind me and starts accelerating. at that point i just got off my bike and decided to walk for a bit.CUNT!
try http://bikeshd.co.uk/
it aggregates 2nd hand bike listings from gumtree, ebay, craigslist, etc.
i think it was built by a web designer who'd just had his bike nicked.
let me know if you see mine on your travels :-)
