Hi All,
I know some of you are purists and so may well write scathing replies to this thread but I'm going to post it anyway!
I have a friend who is looking to get himself a hybrid bike. He's looking for something he can do some light off road stuff on too - in the park with the kids, down the towpath of the river - but mostly on the road, hence the hybrid rather than a mountain bike.
He's been looking at the Specialized range and quite likes the Crosstrail. Does anyone on here have any experience of these types of bikes? I don't but I said I'd ask around for him.
Cheers in advance for any help.

Oh, OK, I was imagining him using it to secure the bar tape. Did he just secure the bar tape at the brake end with some PVC? Or did he secure the loose end of the bar tape with the cork cage? I was tempted to go down the champagne cork route as I need some new tape - and as it's Xmas and someone is bound to be drinking some! Might add the cage too for something a bit different.

Hi VB,
It seems lately that when I have been clicking on previously unread posts that I get directed to somewhere near the end of the post - possibly not even on the first page. Is this something that you have spotted before? It happened yesterday on the Offered: Jobs thread in the Classified section. I found myself near the end of page two on the first click of the thread. Strange.

The supplier that had some rivets was linked to me by atomic.a. Check a reply where I thanked them kindly, a few posts back. ^^ They delivered pretty fast, with a mimimum charge though - I might share postage with you if we're near each other..? And if you have to buy more rivets than you need, I might be interested in splitting them with you, too.
The Bicycle Workshop in All Saints Road have them at £1 a pop. Postage is £5 so it is probably worth going in and getting some at some point. Couldn't find the post you were on about!? Couldn't see wood fer trees probably.

Not done any re-rivetting. I have spotted where to get replacemnt rivets if you'd like to know. But I don't have good enough vices and tools for metal work, so no chance of that. I've read somewhere the front ones are worth avoiding since untensioning each hole in turn and re-rivetting in that area is risky. TBH I wouldn't bother at all if I were you. Brooks make saddles with big rivets already in, I reckon this home-done stuff might stem from when they didn't.
Fair enough, worth an ask I felt. It's quite an old - and previously unloved - saddle. The holes are all bit stretched and knackered TBH. Thats why I was thinking bigger rivets would tidy 'em up. Will have to look in to it. Where did you see rivets for sale? Last place I saw 'em was that place in Notting Hill - or round that way.

Has anyone ever heard of them? There is a Mercury sat out side my local Tesco. Been there for weeks. Unlocked. Abandoned. It's a smaller frame which would probably suit a lady or as a polo bike. Currently has a sturmey rear hub.
