Maybe try a Surly, I've got a 62cm CrossCheck frame and its big, long top tube, long head tube and a wicked frame. Stemroller would be another option, 62cm C-T seat, 60.8cm Eff TT, 19.7cm head tube. Either one would be a better fit than the Kona from the look of the geo. Your welcome to a trundle on my CrossCheck some time, but it does have gears....

I thought being fit would make these things easier, but if anything it's worse
Eat lots of very spicy food, you need 9 day jerk chicken, and sweat it out. Combine this with liberal quantities of whisky, mixed with hot water, fresh ginger, honey and lemon juice. Snack on whole cloves of garlic slowly roasted in a low oven. You will lose all your friends but regain your health.

Interesting replies guys! It's funny isn't it how strictly speaking black hubs and rims don't really look right on a vintage frame if you're doing a sort of period accurate build and yet black was used a lot for things like stems and seat-posts on bikes from a couple of decades ago. I'm swinging towards just doing what I feel is right so prob a mix of old skool and newer stuff, for example I was thinking about trying to find a vintage front caliper in black to go with the look but old skool calipers were rubbish compared to what you get today in terms of stopping power (at least the calipers on all my old racers from the early 80s were).

First off must all be in black and no rear brake so rear rim doesn't have to have a braking surface. I have a set of wheels built up in black with Goldtec hubs and Open-pro rims but I'm not 'quite' convinced they'll look right on the Gazelle when it's built up and I'm looking for possible alternatives. Cheers.

Just a random thought I had. It would be expensive granted but exclusively so if mass produced? It would certainly be a lot lighter than hardened steel and stronger. Not sure how resistant titanium is to cutting but I 'think' it's a fuck of a lot harder so should be more resistant.

Thanks for the advice :) I'm not overly concerned about everything being same brand just want to recreate the right 'look and feel' for that period. I'm also a tart and would prefer new bits, or unused new old shop stock type stuff. Does anyone make copies (or close as) of Campag Strada cranks? Not prepared to shell out 300 quid for authentic but scuffed up original cranks on ebay!

Just wanted some ideas/advice around what cranks to get or look out for for the rebuild of my Gazelle. Period is mid to late 70s. So far I've found and bought some nice bits on ebay, like a period fluted seat-post in black (unused, new old stock). Some Rino track pedals with cages and straps, again unused, period, new old stock.
But am at a bit of a loss for what to do for the cranks? Is there anything new out there being manufactured today (pref 165mm) that would be, more or less, in keeping with the period? If not then what should I be looking out for on ebay? Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

There's a fuck of a lot of bravado on this thread and to be fair saying what you would do and then being in a situation that dodgy and what you do actually do are two completely different things.
If I was a cowardly little shit and I was going to collect £100 for a bike that the owner knew I'd nicked off him I'd make sure I had a weapon handy in case the bloke tried to whack me or whatever, knives are good because they're so available and have maximum scare factor. I'd also have a mate or two lurking nearby in case it did turn nasty.
You did well to get your bike back mate. OK you lost £100 but it was obviously worth it to you.
