On the one hand he was a genius musician and the other he refused offers to progress his career.
He preferred to keep it real and got signed up by Island records early on.I have a great respect for him with regards to how he conducted his career. Anybody who foregos massive commercial success in order to keep creative control and freedom is a better person than most.

John Martyn died today. Considering his lifestyle, he did well but he'll still be missed:

- it's easy to forget (or not to know) just how amazing he was.
working with lee scratch perry, experimenting with his own sound by distorting his acoustic guitar, his tom waits style use of voice as another instrument.......

i remember seeing a guy build a replica one of those 911, man i love the sound of worked porshe engines.
they sound amazing. replicas are difficult to build because the 911R is a swb car and there aren't many around - they were based on '67 Ss. the production cars were based on '68 bodyshells. The trouble with building a replica is that a good early S to use as a donor car is worth big money and has it's own place in history.
i forgot to mention, that one is number three of only four prototypes that were made, hence the price. there were 20 production cars.

here's something a little porny also:

Don't quite follow you there, i'm guessing you're getting at the naming of the bonnet considering the engine isn't under there?
It's late and i've just finished a bitch of an assignment so forgive this lack of understanding =P
it's late and i've got insomnia - i thought you were referring to the use of straps and buckles to secure bonnet.........so i made a small joke........
good night all!

okay, this is real car porn to me. a 1967 Porsche 911R:
***1967 Porsche 911R ***
The 1967 911R was an very early example of what Porsche Racing department were capable of in the way of lightweight performance builds, each of the 22 "R's"was substancially lightened over the standard 911 of the period, the doors, wings/fenders, bonnet and engine lid were all constructed of GRP.The interior was also stripped of all comfort features. It Sported a stripped out dashboard, bare steel floors and a bucket seat. All the windows bar the windscreen were plexiglass, driver and passenger door windows were raised and lowered with a lightweight leather strap as the door internals were stripped to a bare minimum.
The 2 litre engine on the majority of the 911R's was a highly tuned 2.0S engine running twin plug heads with a marelli twin output distributor, twin coils and twin fuel pumps
A 100 litre fuel tank was fitted with a center of the bonnet fill. The oil tank was made of aluminum and mounted ahead of the right rear wheel.
The result of these efforts to reduce the weight held the weight to 1830 lbs
The following pictures are of prototype 3 which was the one R built with aluminium panels:

(this car was for sale recently for £650,000!)

There's a lot of Porsche porn cropping up so here is this. (apologies if it's been up and i've missed it....) It's a rare 911 RS with 29k on the clock and was discovered in a bombed out garage.....in Beirut!
All the mechanicals have been fully restored but the outward signs of bomb damage....technically, i don't think it can be called patina has been left untouched.

There was a long feature on the car in 911 & Porsche World a couple of years ago and the Autofarm website has this:

1990 Fiat Uno
my friend had a Uno, great little car, super reliable and cheap as chips to run
i drove a fiat uno round morocco once. i reversed into a tree and the 'u' fell off so it was called the fiat no for the rest of the trip. /crap story.
Johnny, was your M3 stock standard? what year?
It was a '96 and it was stock. It had the later 3.2l engine and the six speed 'box.

There's some nasty crashes.
I wish people were more responsible when they're driving.
I can't decide how i feel about it but if you google "Porsche Girl" there's a story and some graphic pictures of her accident. It's extremely graphic and she did not survive so be warned. I think I'm just pleased that PG didn't kill anyone else...........
