I don't feel that two threads out of fifteen thousand is excessive.......if only there were more threads on Rapha (it aint cheap, eh?) ghost bikes, how to skid and Unipack (they aint good, eh?)........
A lot of people on here have owned some interesting and beautiful cars and i'm finding it interesting......
I admit, lists are boring, luckily there's hardly any of them on the forum.........I'd like to see some pics of the cool cars people have owned though....
-
Swrve and Rapha clothing do exactly what I want them to do.........there's a lot of talk of Rapha's prices but swrve aren't exactly cheap either.
They seem expensive (both) but are seriously well made they last forever........
I've ordered Swrve from both the UK and the US (more choice and the exchange rate was good) and the service from both was excelent.
I also like how Rapha send their gear in a black package so the postman thinks you're getting porn.
(I haven't needed one yet, but when i do, Ground Effect in NZ do some nice merino hoodies and bass layers - If only Swrve would make the hiding hoody in merino......then it would be perfect.)

there's some great cars here too......who'd have thought it?
the '57 standard is a little stunner.
@Bellezza - that's a nice list! any more details on the Bug and the Chevy? Times etc?
(I ran my van on the strip a few times and posted a sub 18 second 1/4 but that was with full wooden camping interior, roofrack and a fridge full of beer.)

Johnny, are you purchasing this? sounds fab as long as you check the service history and I would get it AA checked, if it pans out its a great deal!
i'd like to - the price has already droped from 13K.........but........i'm living a car free lifestyle at the moment (and enjoying it) so i'm trying to be strong. i think that's just appeared to test me........

so it's two car threads now is it?
You're making this place banal with your banging on about cars.
go to a car forum and get it out of your system there, it's so tedious to see there are now two active car threads. Absolutely no need to have started another thread.
Please accept my apologies. I must have posted in the wrong forum.
I have checked, and yes, you're right:
Miscellaneous & Meaningless:
Non-bike-related stuff in here only. That way those who want the bike stuff can choose to block this category and ignore the off-topic stuff.Sorry. You must think I'm some sort of fucking prick.

Two nice sensible, practical cars for you to enjoy.
Nice find!
My favourite Cortina has been this one - it's heavily modified and TVR engined:

I just like this picture of the turbo'd beetle:

Just following on from the Car Appreciation Thread, what cars have people actually owned? It seems from reading the thread that a lot of people have either owned or driven some very nice cars.
My list looks like this (not always in chronological order and not that impressive really, but it's only fair I go first:)
Volkswagen Polo MKII (Country)
Volkswagen Polo MKII (Fox)
Volkswagen Polo 1.1 (MKIII)
Volkswagen Golf VR6 4-Motion (MKIV)
BMW M3 (E36)
Subaru Impreza RB5 (With full pro-drive kit + other toys)
Renault Clio 172 (Great Car!!)
Fiat Seicento Sporting
Vauxhall Astra VXR
Those have come and gone but i've always owned one of these in addition and kept them for longer:
1973 Volkswagen Camper
1967 Volkswagen Camper ('Built' 2.4ltr Type 4 engine (Porsche cooling etc), Porche 944 disc-brake conversion, balljoint beam, independent rear suspension, 'built' gearbox, lowered)
1964 Volkswagen Type 3 saloon.
Now, I have been carless for over six months and i think it may stay that way, for a good while at least!
So, what have you all had?

I think part of appreciating the design and engineering in a car is understanding the problems overcome by any manufacturer when it comes to producing a car that is affordable.
personally, i feel this:

is a greater feat of engineering than this:

it's far easier to design and engineer something when your budget is limitless and you don't need to make a profit.
anyway, i actually came on because i found a 1998 996 for sale for under 12K - is this the car bargain of the year? (ok, it's high mileage but porsche design their cars to be daily drivers - service intervals of 18K, IIRC) i'm actually tempted by this myself, even although i'm now carless:

Ultimate car porn!!! Jonnyhotdog just won the thread!!
bows
it was a German import, (LHD) one owner from new FSH and a genuine 30K on the clock....never welded, never restored, optional black roof.......all i did was lower it and throw on some pretty wheels so technically, VW are the winners.......
here's her pretty bottom (not bad for a 42 year old):

Yes. but not because of clipping/unclipping issues. I put my foot down after my ride and slid on the plastic cleat........
