Ah come on guys and girls, seriously second hand bottle? You can get a nice new one with out mildew and teeth marks for less than a couple of pints of beer, and that will be a super nice one. No im not being a snob, I feel that people need to get their priorities right! (ok maybe a bit of a snob, but really, second hand bottle!)

but like you pointed out this is a place to put your own insights as its an internet forum.....if you don't want to read the post thats your decision....why detract from its point that might make someone think about their actions...
anyway i knew this would happen, hence the can of worms in the title

thanks Tiswas, the point of this was to got straight to the point, rather than for it to come up several pages of comments later.
With more and more people getting on brakeless bikes sooner and sooner, without the understanding that if they were in an incident they would have very little in the form of the law and rights on their side.
What if the worst happened and you couldn't use your legs after an accident that wasn't your fault but due to the court noting that you had an illegal bicycle on the road you are unable to receive any compensation from the drivers insurance...
Its a horrid and harsh point but people have to know what they are getting into. Dont they?

So, all the way home ive been pondering if i should post something on this or not and ive obviously decided to tap away my thoughts onto my computer. Firstly im intending this to be mostly useful to people who havent made up their minds on the subject and im not trying to convert or preach to anyone....
Out on my lunch today, I decided to walk to town rather than pop to the supermarket round the corner that never offers my taste buds any true satisfaction....I see my 'friend x' sitting on the pavement leaning up against a lamp post looking at me in a rather odd blank way, it didn't take me long to realise that 'friend x' is normally on his fixie about town and that a lady next to him is holding his bike whilst he rests on the floor...ah, his been hit....then i see the car and a plastic police man talking to the driver....after a check to see that he is feeling fine but quite shook up and that there are enough people seemingly dealing with the situation I pop off to get food and stroll back, just as i arrive the real police are now taking over the situation and I can tell that 'friend x' is still shocked from the incident..
okok im waffling sorry....
the main point is that after seeing the police dealing with the situation and not sticking my nose in too much, but advising to get the right details from the involved people, the police man gave me his conclusion on the outcome of events:
as no one was hurt other than bump and scrapes and that the cycle had caused damage to the car, he was happy to write down that it was a non event and that they were to go their own ways.
At this point 'friend x' piped up and said a few choice swear words about the situation and that he was not to blame....and to reply to this the police man just pointed at the bike and asked where the brakes are.....ok so that was long winded and im no writer....but i wanted to try and show the situation....
This kind of rant/point/debate will and has always been on this forum, but people still arnt aware that they are treading on some risky ground by riding brakeless, and you will always be seen as the cause in an incident regardless of how it happened! Now hopefully no one will be in any sort of incident, but why risk losing all your rights by not having one little brake and a lever....(or even two!)
oh and as a last note, i am a complete hypocrite as i myself ride a brakeless fixieskdder.....until i put a brake(:P) on tomorrow.
stay safe and bikes are fun! :)
kinchy, think the bars a mega wide 46's ill have to check on the clamp size too if its 26 or 25.4. Ill list a bunch of things up when I have it all back in bton.
