When I was boarding in Flaine last year, we were heading back at the end of the day - at the top ofthe final red run home were a couple of local yoot on fuck-off downhill bikes with studded tyres waiting for the slopes to clear before making the run.
Looked kind of incongruous.
I would love to have a go at this though...

Not quite. I was at the hospital this morning and lots of the staff failed to make it in.. they were rescheduling appointments for April.. and this was today when there was essentially fuck all wrong with transport. Who knows what the hospital was like yesterday?
Ok - I take that back. A&E staff are a bunch of workshy, lazyarse monkeys.

Why does it bother you that people want to skive at any given opportunity? Do you work in A&E?
I don't mind the skiving particularly. I had a couple of hours off in the afternoon to go and muck about in the snow with the kids and it was the happiest i've been in ages.
I just think people should admit that, rather than saying how impossible it was to get anywhere. I'm sure the A&E staff managed to get in and were probably inundated with fractures and shit.

It was physically impossible for me to get to work yesterday, central line was practically shut down, buses weren't running, my car was in for a service, and there was no way I was cycling at 5mph for 9 miles lol, so I got told not to bother coming in, however businessas usual today :)
Eh? So how did those of us who did cycle in get there?
I think you mean you couldn't be arsed to get in.
Most of my team got in, though barely anyone else bothered. One girl, clearly pissed off with getting in when no-one else in her dept was, moaned about what a terrible, difficult journey it had been and how she would have to set off soon to get back safely. She came in from fucking Clapham, on the normally running Northern Line, FFS.

There's still a lot of ice on side roads that haven't been salted.
Still, small crashing incident apart, that was the most fun commute I've ever had. MTB with low pressure in knobblies...
Clapham common, Battersea Park, Hyde Park and the canal - crunchy snow, even still some fresh patches. Ace. Lovely and sunny, snowmen everywhere and not having to run the gauntlet of snowballs like yesterday.
Even looking forward to the slushy ride home.

Balham to Primrose Hill on 23's with a good dose of HTFU.
Rather stupidly neglected to take the mtb which I regretted for the deep smowy bits. Some vague mental theory about thin tyres cutting through the snow to get better traction. Twat.
What a great trip though. Waving at the few other cyclists, most cars giving plenty of room and driving slower than us. Only one fucktard of a van overtaking at about 30 spraying me with slush. And only 2 snowball attacks.
The slushy main roads are fine, the hardpack snow is OK, but I had a couple of really sketchy moments on the halfway stuff.
(and remembered to bring in spair socks for the ride home. Woot!)

It's a miracle!
