The King of Mercia has, from what I've read, always been the premier Mercian frame.
They're both (Merc and BJ) excellent bikes though.
Dave Yates is also worth thinking about (and even more expensive).
maybe, i could be wrong (and likely am).
when i was looking into my frame and called both mercian and bob jackson, bj seemed to be a bit more on the ball about specs for the frame and parts (the guy's knowledge of various lowriders and what fittings they required was amazing). but i could have just spoken to the wrong person at mercian

nah. i'd say it's legit, based on the photo. those rivets are def copper (shouldn't be brass ;), the patina varies depending on the usage, i've got one back in the states that i barely use that has a similar finish. same for the leather, probably sun/sweat faded.
but, probably not worth £30. it doesn't look very well cared for. the leather around the rear rivets looks quite dry, like it might tear, and it looks very used. it also has a fair bit of bolt showing at the nose. something you could get at a jumble for around 15-20 quid.

swift.
similar shape and profile as a team pro, but higher quality (more supple) leather, and slightly shorter (more modern) profile. they are better looking than the b17 and not nearly as long as the swallow.
swifts are (for me) the most comfy saddle out there, good length, nice taper, they break in fairly quickly, and they're lovely :)
as a side note, from what i've seen, swallows tend to have a much shorter life-span than any other brooks, maybe it's the leather they use, but they strecth out really quickly, then you come to the end of the bolt, and they're done. and in my opinion they're kinda ugly, big long feckers. a chopped B17 is much nicer than a swallow.

so yeah, very random, i've got a road frame on which one of the cable stops is fucked so the housing just pulls stright through, not ideal.
so i need one of those bands for friction shifters that clamps the shifters to the downtube. like this - (the centre bit which clamps on the frame)

doesn't have to be campag (though i guess that would be nice), but anything which will allow me to mount these (below) onto a frame without the correct braze ons.
thank you!
