I bought a fake submariner in Bangkok.. my colleague had the same (genuine) model so we had a good look at the two together — on the wrist they were basically indistinguishable ... I don’t wear it now because I’m not a Rolex guy anyway (my tastes and budget are misaligned) —if anything it has just caused me to question the legitimacy of many of the watches I see being worn - especially subs and luminors which were everywhere in Bangkok.

I dread to think what he did to the movement.
I’ll keep an eye out for replacement hands and find somebody to take a look at it

Do you know if those are the original hands? I have a very similar watch which was my grandads... I misguidedly let my father-in-law give it to “his watch guy” to fix when I was much younger and less interested in watches.. it came back with different hands (minus the second hand) and ran for approximately a week - now it runs massively fast and stops after a few hours... I keep meaning to get it sorted... I seem to recall the hands being blue before it got butchered.

The watch is 10 years old with multiple previous owners - can I assume the rating means nothing?

Prob a silly question but how does water-resistance work? Is it literally the ingress of water into the mechanism or does it account for other aspects of pressure? When you get a watch serviced is the WR value maintained.

Does anybody know if the 24hr sub-dial on a Speedmaster mk4.5 (176.0012) can be set independently so as to act as a GMT? - My cursory googling seems to show as ‘no’ - all photos show sub-dial matching main dial.

I’ve taken to pinching my arm hard every time MAHobbs tells me to ‘keep it locked’ to 6 music.

Any recommendations for 'one-box' modem/router to replace BT homehub 5? Ideally, this change would be for improved wifi through the house but also I have intermittent issues with my ethernet-connected work machine (Windows 10, Office 365, Outlook) which I believe to be caused by IPv6 on the homehub ... IT at work seem uninterested in my woes and just tell me to use wifi when at home.. this does seem to fix the issue but i've grown to resent the home-hub!

newb question. If I wanted to try an Amazon Echo setup in my office at home (spare room)

Am i better just getting the small echo dot or getting the sonos with built-in echo? I already have a sonos 1 on my desk which I use for music etc..

I'm not desperate for another sonos speaker but I can repurpose the current one if the combined version gives a benefit over just adding the dot.

Then what else should I get? - I have two desk lamps in the room and a couple of things plugged into sockets i'd like to control.

Any interest in this.. Quartz. Barely worn, few creases on the strap as shown.
