sigh, no, puppies didn't die. i think we need a fgss dictionary so people stop messing things up!
Just out of interest. What's the accepted term for putting wildly expensive parts onto an absolute dog of a frame?
I've got a cheap-shit mangalloy pug frame with stunning campagnolo nuovo record cranks.

I've got an old sandwich you can have for the right price. It's an old british warburton in classic white (although some brown at edges now) lots of quality kit, bottom layer could do with re-buttering but pretty much ready to eat.
I'm hoping to recoup what i spent on it.
PM me if you're interested. -

apologies for blatant bump, I got so confused by all the different replies I've lost count of who i need to reply to first.
just remeasured and i'm pretty sure a 120mm will do (steel frame will bend in a little). i'm getting desparate here folks, any old rear wheel.?alternatively where's the cheapest complete rear fixed wheel to be found on the interwebs? I know planet x is good for hubs but i haven't seen any complete wheels.

I got talking to a mate of mine about bikes this weekend. Turns out his dad had bought himself a racer about 20 years ago in switzerland, NEVER rode it, brought it back home and it's hung in his garage ever since.
It's an MBK road bike, steel, full 105 groupset, not a mark on it.. looks like the type of thing you'd wake up on christmas day for. A shiny, bright red racing bike. Made me feel a bit funny.
Needless to say, it's sat down my cellar now.. no puppies will be harmed, I plan on washing my gloves before I ride it so the original bar tape doesn't get marked..
not really a project bike, but I had to tell someone..

Walking to work this morning and I found an old steel tourer lying on the pavement. Looked pretty knackered but there was a d-lock around the rear-wheel/triangle and a newish set of lights on it.
Looks to me like some old-fella has locked it to itself thinking it's too old to be worth nicking (i'm in yorkshire so bikes don't grow legs like london).. then some junkie has carried it off for half a mile before getting bored and dumping it.
Ideally i want to get it back to the owner, but if I can't i'll keep hold of it for a pub-bike.
I rang both lbs in town this morning; one took my details and promised to pass on my number if anyone came in asking, the other didn't want to know and wouldn't even take my number.
My next stop will be the old bill. My question is should I take the bike along with me to police station and hand it over or am I best just telling them i've got it and leaving my details? As i mentioned the bike is not really worth much, i wouldn't want to have to go back in three months time if no-one claims it but i'm more than happy to keep it and wait for a phone call.? Anyone have experience of police lost-and-found?

sorry to hijack this thread, i've been lurking on the forum for a while and i've got a few questions regarding cable crimps.
I'm trying to get into the crimpie scene, am i better off buying a brand new crimp while I decide if i like it or should I look for an old crimp and convert it? How much should I spend? Could someone give me an exhaustive list of every crimp on the market and their pro's and cons. ideally i would like all of my questions answered without resorting to the search forum facility.

isn't part of the problem how secure the bike is perceived to be by thieving scum?
whilst the sheldon educated masses might be aware that cutting through a rim is difficult, to the casual observer a bike locked like this seems less secure. An opportunist thief might well have a go at sawing through a rim (knackering a good wheel, even if they don't get the bike) whereas if it's locked around the frame, the only point of attack would be the lock itself. -

At the risk of sounding pretty shit, i've always thought that nike rifts (split toes) would make ace cycling shoes if they put a stiff sole/spd cleats on em?
My mate was at nike hq last week and reckoned the shoe designers are getting well pissed off at just how much dunks are getting pushed and pushed at the expense of new designs etc.

Quite possibly a red-herring but since i'm stuck trying to make registry repairs i thought it would be worth mentioning.
Earlier today i googled fujibikes.com to have a look at the 2008 track bike. From that google search I opened an innocent looking link to what I assumed was the real fuji website. The website never opened, instead got some error message (which i closed without clicking etc.). Within a few minutes I noticed my desktop had been hijacked with a spyware message etc.
could be that the two things are completely unrelated, could be that i've been unwittingly duped into installing something i didn't mean to. Anyone have any ideas? anyone have the official url for fuji?
oh how I wish i wasn't lumbered with xp.
