Whilst I appreciate your argument I also think that the Grand Seiko is for the true watch fan who appreciates the true qualities as opposed to the "look what I am wearing" brigade.
One thing is for sure you won't get a G Seiko in the genuine fake stores in Turkey.
I don't think my IWC pilot shout's " look what I am wearing " or my speedmaster professional . But granted the two platinum daytonas we bought in Basel for stock are a tiny bit lairy .....

Well I think 2grand for a quartz grand seiko or 4grand for a mechanical is a squillion euros . Not all Basel is about silly stuff , the majority is about what established manufacturers are doing new at normal prices . And unlike a lot of " trade " shows Basel is open to the paying public . Ok you need an appointment thru the trade to get onto the stands and it is expensive to get in .
-
All I know is in all the times I've been to the Basel watch fair with work I have never seen a queue of people trying to get near the seiko stand . And not one of my collectors has one . Technically superior , ok not gonna argue but better made not in the same league , look at the quality of the bracelets .

But one thing that is either good or bad depending how you see it , is that a " classic " Rolex , or Omega is always going to hold it's money , but you buy one of the expensive grand seikos and you wont be able to give it away . Now even if you believe that Japanese mechanical technology is better than swiss ( which not many people do ) is that just a triumph of marketing over common sense ?

Tenderloin , that Vacheron is effing gorgeous . Ref the service I agree with Bodieanddoyle with regards to swiss time services , very good and I don't think expensive . I use 'em at work all the time . There's another good workshop in Tring I know them as Hertfordshire Horologists , but they also have another " retail " name . They looked after my '66 IWC cal 89 and restored an old Girard Perrigaux I had .

Because Omega have made a conscious effort to move up market with co axial movements across the board , what they thought of more " low rent " previously have appreciated as well . Nothing wrong with pre co axial at all . You can no longer buy a quartz seamaster , entry level for that now is circa £2700 . Older stuff holding its value from new very well .
