it is basically that young babies who suffer neglect don't develop properly as they should. This includes their brain development which is vital. Their Brain growth is stunted by malnourishment/improper diet and lack of stimulus. This then leads to improper brain function in terms of emotion. combine that with an appalling upbringing then you have an individual who is incapable of being a productive member of society unless severe intervention takes place.

I think her argument has plenty of merit but no easy fixes.

Being uncompromisingly anti capital punishment, I can't endorse the death penalty, but solitary confinement in some Siberian gulag might work.

The arguments for state execution are often emotionally based.

I agree - the difficulty for me is the danger of an innocent person being killed as well as reluctance of juries to return guilty verdicts if death is the penalty.

I normally would agree with you Tiswas, however my interpretation of the events of Friday in Norway are that an exceptionally deluded / evil / disturbed* individual perpetrated a callous, premeditated attack with the express intention of bringing himself and his views to the forefront of the media agenda to provide him with a platform with which to preach his outlook.

My personal opinion is that in this instance it would be a huge mistake to allow him this platform, as this would send the wrong message to people who see this as an example of how to make their views heard. I see no harm in conducting a trial in this manner, if transparency is an issue then surely provision can be made to release transcripts of proceedings at a later date.

I am with Tiswas. You need to be open with justice. any point that he has tried to make is nullified by the fact that he thought that killing children was the best way of making it.
