Ahh shit Sam,
What a nightmare. I guess you have other commitments earlier on the Saturday yes? From your response I don't suppose there is any point in asking if there is any possibility of you getting there for 5.What are we going to do. I don't think Dave is going to like this.
Anyone there?
Help!
Someone are you still up for this? -
No they don't badtmy and my post was tongue-in-cheek. But yes. You are far from safe near the curb. I attack roundabouts by staying in the very dead centre of the lane I am in and not budging an inch.
My rant was aimed specifically at a women in a scooter who undertook!! me this morning as I was approaching a parked car with a van just about to overtake me. Im sorry but if there is a possibility of her getting taken out before she takes me or anyone else out then I go for the former any day of the week.

Wow.
I just found out that there was also a station at Southwark Park just of Rotherhithe New Road.
Definitely need to include this area on the map. Though you do get a few 'interesting characters' around these areas at pub closing time. Probably best to try and avoid upsetting any of them if we do go down these routes. -
Clefty,
That Spa road station is very interesting. I lived in Bermondsey for a few years in the late 90s and I never realised there was an Old station there. Some of those roads near Shad Thames are cool too.
I say we kick down the door on the steps at the side of the ICA, this supposedly leads to the Whitehall tunnels. Then we compromise the inner door and all cycle towards Buckingham palace. Hopefully emerging triumphantly in the back Garden in time for one of Queenies Summer Garden parties.

If this is the way the team is now to be picked, then fair enough. Although I'm not very happy about it.
I'll just have to punch in a serious time on the have a go rollers so it's obvious that a mistake has been made in team selection ;0p
Sam. I didn't mean to cause any conflict when I posted up my times earlier in the week. Just that reading back through the whole thread it seemed as though most people weren't that fussed about racing or not. I would no way want to take the place of someone who really wanted it and has put in an effort to get things sorted. So sorry about that.
It's just the fact that for the first couple of weeks of trying to get a team together I was the only mug willing to be part of the team. Plus it took me a lot of sweat and tears to get a passout from the missus!!!
I think it's out of order if Sam isn't on the team (in light of his consistent enthusiasm, the travel/domestic logistics he's mentioned, and his early selection).
Yes I totally agree. Like I said from the beginning. I am up for doing this. But not at the expense of anyone else. If no this time I am sure there will be another chance soon.

I've had a few crashes. But yet to actually be hit by a car.
The funniest ever though was when I was a courier. It was a very hot summers day and there was this woman wearing very little. Anyway the cool customer that I am, I was looking at her and smiling. Not paying attention to the fact that the white van in front of me had slammed on his brakes at a set of lights. I look forward but its too late to take evasive action. Slam on the front brake as hard as I could. I fly through the air head first into the rear doors of the van. The woman has a bemused look on here face, while the van driver gets out, there was no damage to the van or myself, except my pride. They asked me what the hell I was doing, so I explained. They found it highly amusing and drove off. Always pay attention to the rode!! -

Ok. So I fixed my chain, put a 16t on the wheel, and am off to do a few laps of Vic Park. If my arm is okay after 5-10 miles, I'm soooo in. And if I'm in, I need a rain-resistant jacket. I checked Evan's and the cheapest one was 65 quid. There must be something cheaper somewhere? Any ideas? Also, is this a kind of "bring you own fucking tools" ride? Of course I'll have my own patches/tube regardless, but I'd like to leave behind spanner at least, and I don't have a pump? (I may also need to grab a saddle bag).
I'll check this message from my mobile after a few laps in case anyone has some advice.
Hi Horatio,
Just like last weeks ride..... There will be no rain and no punctures so don't bother to bring anything......
There I go, putting the jinx on it already. I will be the first to puncture now.
Seriously though. Most people will have tools/pumps/spare inners/stickies etc. I carry all these and I am sure if you have a blow out, someone near you will be more than willing to help and wait while you repair it. Having said that though. Carrying a spare inner will speed up the process.
A good rain jacket is essential for riding in England. I spent about £80 on one several years ago. Still have it now and don't intend to replace it for a while. Its worth spending that bit extra for a high quaility jacket.

Ahh bolox
Looks like we still need to sort out our team as Sam is unable to make this for 5.
See the other post confirming this.
What a nightmare.
I am still 100% for this even if I need to race everyone myself
