The article does say that he doing it off his own back but then later on its says he's supported by something so he's getting some funding for it.
I can see the point in the sport transfer thing but it seems a bit pointless here investing in someone who's getting on a bit and in a sport where we are already very strong and have alot of young talent coming up. -

I'm definitely on the 1st tier too but feel I learnt a lot last year and made massive improvements while still having big problems. Last year I was totally focused on the Etape and then had a go at pretty much everything afterwards not really training for anything. I've already got quite a few different aims for next year already but no single main one, not sure if they will work well together yet or get in the way of each other, but should be fun anyway.

I've been only commuting on the bike but been swimming, running and doing weights. Following a weights program from weights for cyclists or something, seems pretty good so far its mainly core stuff.
I'm starting properly back on the bike next year but might try and do a few chaingangs before Xmas and then do a load of MTBing when I'm up north for Xmas. Last year I was well under way with my training by now but think I maybe peaked to early and crashed or something, had to take 5 weeks off completely so want to avoid that. For my blocks I'm going to vary the load by time training and make sure rest weeks the time training is very low.

Boardman used a more standard position, the whole point of Obree's new one was he was on a standard bike that passed UCI regs but he had it stretched so that he could adopt a different position that was more aero.
See the pic in this his forearms are level with the ground

Where boardmans here are not quite
http://www.bicyclesusa.com/boardm~1.jpgI'm sure his depression is alot to do with it too but its one of the things that has made him amazing over the years. Obree has been in a team before but they don't work for him, I think he's the type of person who has to do things his own way and no scientists or coaches would help.

The problem with the bike is not to do with the long wheel base and trail really, its because he's in an aero style position with his arms out in front of him like on a TT bike holding the drops on the curved part not the bottom of the drops. This is fine on normal straights but when you hit the banking theres nothing to support your arms with the G force. Shallower tracks would make this easier but theres still a fair bit of g force so I doubt this bike would work anywhere as you need support under your arms if they are out in front of you.
Obree did have a replica made of his bike by Specialized and the guy who did the lotus bike, it was more aero and stiffer but not as light, he did his first attempt on this and broke the british record but never got the overall hour record. Since he had booked the track and officials for 24hrs he re attempted it the next morning on his own bike and got the hour record.

That's a big "maybe". Scherrit said the old one with two screws was particularly shit. I guess I will find out. Emergency stop testing ftw
I've used a similar thing on some annoying mountainbike brakes and never had a problem with them slipping. If they do slip go to a motorbike shop and get another there, some motorbikes use the same thing.

Was the reason they couldn't make the frame he was too tall or too heavy or a mix of both of them? I would speak to dave yates, I think he has a 70cm frame somewhere on his website. If getting a frame strong enough that big then you could try Curtis, they don't do the type of frame you are looking for but specialized in T45 tubing which is not just for the bike industry so will come in longer lengths and it is very, very strong. Curtis frames are some of the strongest frames you can get, they might make you one if you design it for them.

If you get 953, you'll only get the main triangle as 953. No-one is yet making things like forks and chain stays from 953. Yes it's lovely, yes it's lighter and stronger, but I would probably go for a 100% Ti frame if a Ti frame was available to the specs I want.
Are you sure about that? Brian Rourke makes 953 frames and the rears are stainless steel and un painted, might be some other tubing though.

Is cycle fit done fully on a serrota size cycle or similar?
I've had a fitting done elsewhere which was a similar price, they really made a massive difference but reckon if I was going for one now I'd go to cyclefit. They do make a massive emphasis on your getting your feet right and after doing the etape I didn't know anyone who's feet weren't in agony. My fitting was done on my bike so it was trying to get my bike to fit me the best they could rather than finding out what my ideal fit is. At the time thats what I needed but now I really want a custom frame so would like to start from a blank page, very tempted by the titanium glider!

I dusted off the turbo last night and went for my first session. Wasn't as boring as I can remember it but its still early days.
Sticking to working on the base fitness at this stage like I did last year, will bring in more track style intervals later on. Would like to get a set of rollers to get the pedaling action better but that will have to wait till next year.
Whats the standard like for the Wednesday races at Herne Hill? Do you need to be pretty good to enter or can anyone with a license have a go at the B races?
