My rims will be going in to Armourtex one of these days, and I need (ok, so *need *is debatable, I would prefer) to mask the braking surface on the front one, as they said they don't do the masking themselves and didn't seem to know much about masking materials. Has anyone had any experience with masking tape for powder coating? Do you really need tape to stand 400-500F or does the lower temp tape work ok?
Also anyone had much joy masking off a curved surface with a straight tape?

1.Building new wheels: anyone have a pair of 28h track hubs lying around? I can get Suzue ones for quite cheap but only from the US. Thought I'd check here first. Anyone?
2.Since something (not sure what it is) has decided to throw the towel in somewhere in my BB/cranks, and my LBS cannot get the cotter pin out to regrease/investigate without an angle grinder (thereby probably demolishing entire lot), I need new stuff!
I think I need a Raleigh compatible BB (1 3/8, 26tpi - ???) and my chainring is currently 45t (I need maybe a 42t though as it's quite a big gear right now) and my crank arms are 160mm since my bike is quite dinky. All suggestions welcome!

My bike is making a nice grinding/creaking sound on the downstroke of the left crank arm, and BLB cannot get my crank off to regrease my BB without using an angle grinder. Stupid cotter pin and stuff. Grr! I need a new one! But if I can bear my evil bike noises I may be down for a very short time for some trackstand practice - its the only time it doesn't make a noise.

juliettyspaghetty It is a 1984 raleigh team replica. £45 for the bike. I hope it's ok when I get it this weekend.
Here's a picture:

I rode with a s/s bmx hub when I first got my bike. Personally I felt like I was doing it by halves (ie if I stopped eating meat I'd just go straight to vegan) but fixed isn't for everyone. When I got around to having new wheels built I used a flip flop hub but I really have never used the freewheel since. Once you're fixed you won't go back. Also I reckon flipflop hubs are harder to find - esp if you have a dumb spoke count like me (28).
I never tried anyone else bike before I rode fixed (same reason - too big for me) - my bike is usually the very tiniest at polo if you want to try it :D

I'm not that short I suppose (5' 2"), plenty of people shorter than me ride bikes bigger than mine, but I think it's better to ride something slightly too small than too big for you. I don't know the general opinion on that though - what do other people think?
Rims wise, just bought deep V's, grey ano 28h which I will be having powdercoated baby blue (like the Celeste colour Velocity currently do). My bike will be, er, pastel bling! I really should have gone for a 32h to make the hub search easier... but these were cheap, and I can get quite cheap Suzue hubs for them I suppose.
I did play polo once. The mallet came way up to my elbow

dude on black bike, yellow checked cap, going west along Bethnal Green Road last night (to Hallowe'en Ride I guess) about 5.45pm - very sorry, but I was really gawping at what I thought was a bling chain (is there such a thing?) but was probably in reality the only thing that I could identify a fixie with in the dark. Hello! I was on my tiny yellow/pink affair. I do forget there are often people atop the objects of my stares...
two dudes going east along Bethnal Green Road, 8pmish, crossing the junction with Brick Lane and getting beeped at. Me and my boy were walking along east. NICE BIKES i did yell, which they were.
nice blue fixie locked outside the Redchurch, Brooks saddle, and then me and my boy stared at you outside Tas Firin - we meant 'hello', it just didn't come out and we gawped instead.

If you're after civilized venues similar to the Alley Cafe, my favourite cafe bar was always The Malt Cross, just south of the Market Sq - http://www.maltcross.com (it used to be a music hall - quaint restored Victoriana etc), and also Fade and the Hard to Find Cafe, which is right at the top (171 to be precise) of Mansfield Road, just north of the city centre. The Social (Pelham Street) is a good bar/club of the slightly indie/electro variety, with a post-student age patronage. The Old Angel in Hockley was my local - excellent punk/hardcore jukebox if you like that sort of thing.
Yer I have seen a few people who have non-machined deep v's on the front and it doesn't look too bad scuffing on the coating, just wondering how much it will damage the rest of the paintwork if it does start to get rubbed off. Juts thinking they're going to be baby blue so I can't decide how much of a mess black brake skids will make. gah
