what doesn't look great to me is - for myself if I want a wider range brompton I'm interested in two things - a lower low gear to get up hills when loaded (i.e. 25" or even lower), and some close-ish gears in the round-town-flat section (i.e. mid-60"s) that are simple to shift between. This setup still forces you to choose one or the other - they've chosen to put gears 6/7/8 in a nice round-town spot, but I don't think the low gear is really low enough. put a smaller chainring on, though, and you'll spend a lot of time flipping both shifters simultaneously around gears 7/8/9/10 :/

looks like the same hub gear ratios as the BWR

gloucester->temple meads is an interesting idea, this is temple meads->cardiff but I think it's the same type of train - more space, but maybe if you don't fit in the space then it might be worse. also, getting 4 trains means 4 times the opportunity for a train guard that's a stickler for the rules.

fwiw, went on a GWR a month or two back, my tourer just barely fit in the vertical rack, someone else with a gravel bike that was never gonna fit the rack just had it on the floor sticking out into the corridor a bit & the guard didn’t bother him. my general feeling is that trainguards are a bit less dicks atm than in the past, but maybe it just depends who you get on the day…

I think the black block is a kind of lawyer-tab-safety-mechanism, i.e. with the block fitted the action of the lever is exactly as specified for a v-brake lever. if you physically remove the block you can then get a lot more customisation/adjustment, but you can also end up with a potentially "unsafe" setup. by which I mean, if you're "racing in a pro mtb race" you can set it up with more power, but if you're a "novice rider with poor brake control" that setting could contribute to an accident.

ohhhh you mean this? I think it's for fine adjusting the lever feel, and maybe allowing the lever to pull cantis as well as Vs - closer to the pivot is canti (pull ratio changes as you pull), further from the pivot is vee (pull ratio is basically linear). same mechanical principle as the pauls levers with choice of two pivot points.

one tiny thing about the eerder metaal bikes is that he cuts 1-2cm off the bottom of the headtube - you can maybe see on this photo that it's missing the little B-shaped protusion thing on the NDS. (I had the pleasure of visiting his shop last year & he showed off the trophy drawer of all the tiny headtube rings...)
