we just get teams to nominate themselves if they want to and are able to go to the World's. Then everyone votes and can't vote for themselves.
So it becomes a popularity contest, to see which teams get to compete for a spot. Such a bad idea!
We are trying to find the best teams, not the best looking/most popular teams.#(Malice/Malice)

I think that the only good solution is to hold another tournament a month before of the Worlds.
that is going to be very difficult or impossible.
the next best option, that not ideal, is the choose from the UK Champs
this has its problems but I think there more pros than cons.
any other solution, will carry more cons than pros.we need to choose a way that is the fairest possible, having in account that we want the 6 BEST teams from UK
+1
It's not ideal, but the UK Champs is better than any other option suggested so far.

Ewww.
So it sounds like there is some interest in making this happen. Shall we start a list of people willing to help out and then we can work out all the details. First up will be deciding on a date, booking a court and announcing it to the world. This should ideally happen within the next couple of weeks.
Please only put your name down if you willing to put in a considerable amount of time and effort over the next few months.

I don't think any of the N American teams will have booked their flights yet. So as long as we decide and let people know within a couple of weeks, I don't think the notice period will matter.
We could hold it at Newington. Booking cost is between £0 - £500 /day, depending on various factors.
There will be 27 N American teams coming to Europe in August. We won't get that next year. It seems a shame to waste this years opportunity.
-
What are peoples thoughts about this?
We could leave it till next year, but the idea was that this year it would be easy to get North American teams playing in London, then when we host it again next year, some of those teams will come back.
Do we go ahead?
If so, when? The week before will split the N American teams with Munich.
The week after the Worlds? -

So just before Xmas, the LHBPA agreed to make 2010 the year we run the first of what will hopefully become an annual event, the London Open.
Paris, Rouen, Munich and now Karlsruhe have all held international tournaments that look like becoming regular events, and we thought London should join the list.
London is nicely placed to attract teams from Europe, North America and the rest of the world, and it would be great to play more teams outside of Europe.
No dates have been set, but we were thinking August 7 - 8, the weekend before the Worlds, which would hopefully attract loads of North American teams on their way to Berlin.
As this tournament would be open to all, this would then give ALL London teams a chance to play some international competition. It may also give some North American teams/players more of a reason to come to Europe, even if they aren't playing in the Worlds. This would be more of a relaxed tournament, maybe just 1 day, more about playing polo with people from around the world rather than winning any trophies. But I guess all the details are still to be worked out.
I'm really excited about putting this on, but wanted to gauge the reaction of the membership and London polo in general. We will need quite a few people to put in some work on this, so looking for volunteers to help out. It would also be great if someone else wants to lead on this. -
I think the UK champs are the perfect place to decide who goes to the Worlds.
The problem this year is the timing of the UK champs (5 months before the worlds) and that it wasn't announced beforehand that it will be a qualification tournament.
Next year we will have to make sure that we schedule the UK champs a month before the Worlds and make everyone aware that it will be the qualifications.
This year we may just have to live with the fact that it is an imperfect situation that will be rectified next year.

Started a thread for Felix here. http://www.lfgss.com/thread39994.html
It would be great if we could get loads of polo players to visit him in hospital, whenever he can recieve visitors of course.

it's looking good, although he's still out of it most of the time and best left sleeping.
visits maybe later this week, would be a bit confusing/stressful now as he's hardly opening his eyes...but i guess someone could read him a card and he'll understand what it says and who it's from!
the address isKing's College Hospital
Ruskin Wing, Kinnier Wilson ward, bed 20
London SE5 9RSi'll keep you posted for visits, he'll have to be a bit more conscious...
