The calender is empty so I have no idea when Mitch is available but as Gabes posted it is our home fixture (I didn't realise this before).
If Black Rebel can be there before 7 Hurlingham would be our preference.
Just seeing this, where is Hurlingham?
ELKS, We'd love to get our fixtures done and do a double header but... ^

Why should it be in London?
I didn't say it had to be. My point is that here in London we are capable and have the courts to throw this thing together easily. If another city wanted to do it, great!
So it becomes a popularity contest, to see which teams get to compete for a spot. Such a bad idea!
We are trying to find the best teams, not the best looking/most popular teams.#(Malice/Malice)
Did you read the rest of my proposal? I don't think so low of my fellow players that I think they would just pick the most popular teams (what are those anyway?). I think that my fellow players and myself are perfectly capable of being unbiased enough to pick the teams that deserve a shot at competing in a qualifiers. The voting would be to get into the qualifiers, you still have to place in the top 6 of the tournament.
Do you have a better idea? Using the UK's to pick against the expressed wishes of the tourney organisers is really inconsiderate and un-polo-like.
the way this thread is progressing it seems to assume we should only allow teams from london, manchester, or cambridge to qualify because they were the only places that had players fill out forms on dotca. i really don't think that should be the case, and if it's not i don't wee why we would do this in london as opposed to somewhere further north
I totally agree with you. I think the way the Euro qualifiers was decided was frankly abhorrent and I'd hate to see this go down the same route. I think any team should be able to nominate themselves and state why they deserve to play.
Every person who votes could have multiple votes, say 6, so that they would be able to vote for teams that they know are great competitively or would represent the UK well for whatever reason they thought was important. I think that would be great and would bring the UK scene together even more to rally behind those who made it through the whole process. It means that every UK player had a part to play and a say which is cool too.also, i'd like to point out that if we are going to use a separate tournament to decide this, it is likely going to have to be a one-day event, with travel on the day for many, and a limited number of games to determine who is best.
sorry i should really stop posting back to back and just start editing my posts
Well if people like the idea of having a small round-robin tourney to decide this, with teams nominated and voted in to compete, then we'd have to work out how many teams we could allow.
I'm not the best at this but I think 10 teams would play 9 games each.
So that's 90 games to be played.
If each is 10 minutes that's 15 hours of games. Across 2 courts that's cut down to 7.5 hours. That's a lot of games in one day but it's totally achievable and would allow those traveling a full weekend travel day. -
really? I've only seen one in 3 years.
I've seen lots of gnarly crashes though and separately seen hundreds of l v r charges.
I've had 2 near misses this week from Dave practicing lob shots. High sticks and high balls are more dangerous than a charge that you know you are going into.
+1
Worst crash I ever saw, and resulted in serious, chronic head inury, in polo was a lefty vs righty charge.
worst charge i ever saw was idiot charging against idiot. If you go balls out and can't stop your a dick regardless of what hand you write with. Stupid rule.
exactly
Maybe before a game starts it could be highlighted that there is a left handed player on the team, instead of just simply outlawing it.
Anyway these are NA rules and I don't think Europe should necessarily have to copy all of theirs.
Let's start highlighting who loves to t-bone, who shuffles, who will lob the ball at your head, who will highstick backwards without looking....
IMO these rules are pretty flawed and I'm not sure why this just started from scratch. No uncovered chainrings? I mean, that's fine, but surely doesn't need to be a rule.

;1306433']I think this sounds like a great idea.
But I don't think getting another UK - wide tournament in time would be likely.
Also, everyone knows that London teams would only vote for themselves. ;)If Manchester and Cambridge (maybe Oxford) were ok to travel to London for this we could put it together in no time. It's actually really an easy tourney to put together.
As Manchester don't want the UK's to be a qualifier, and we need to respect that, perhaps they'd be happy to travel to London. As for the voting, that's easy to, we just get teams to nominate themselves if they want to and are able to go to the World's. Then everyone votes and can't vote for themselves. It's easy to check on the polls who voted for who.

What about (if possible) doing a combination of these suggestions. We put together a round robin tournament for a small number of teams that are sent to the tourney after being picked by their city as the best from the city.
So if we do a tournament to find the top 6 teams perhaps we allow 10 teams or something.
We could also do the preliminary selection with all of us nominating the teams that we think should be able to play here online. I think we all have a good idea of which teams stand the best chance, regardless of which city we live in.
This also gives people a chance to say they want to play, big themselves up, and be put through by their peers. This means whether you actually play in the tourney or not you still have a say of who should represent the UK at the Worlds.

*The situation being that the UK champs were closed before we knew any details about the worlds and that the circle format is flawed in finding the absolute best teams. And on top of that MCR players/organizers have expressed that they don't want the UK champs to be the qualifications.
+1

the UK champs is not a qualifier, people shouldn't have been making up teams with players from all over europe just to play in a tournament. UK champs should mean something. if one of these teams win, it won't achieve what the tournament has been set up to achieve, to find the best team in the UK. I'd be gutted if a UK team loses out to one of these teams.+1
*a) It's not up to MCR (sorry guys) whether the results of that tournament are used to decide who goes to Berlin. It's up to the UK polo community to ask itself whether the results from the UK champs are a good enough indicator for deciding which teams the UK wants to send to Berlin.
*
I'm not sure I agree with this, but surely if this is what we go with then we'd have to decide after the seeing how the tournament is reffed, organised, generally put together. As we are not the organisers and the organisers themselves are saying this tourney shouldn't be the qualifiers, we have no idea whether it's suitable for this use or not.

Hey, there's an alright chance I might be in New York for this by coincidence. Thought I'd check and see if any Euro Ladies are planning on representing:
ESPI 5 + THE LADIES ARMY II
Submitted by [Paul NY](http://leagueofbikepolo.com/user/paul) on Mon Feb 8, 2010, 05:02pm Friday, June 25, 2010 - Sunday, June 27, 2010We're currently deciding on a location and all necessary details, which will follow as they develop. We just wanted to let people know we're taking the ESPI torch this year, and we're coupling it with an all Women's tournament, modeled after the awesome contest thrown by the women of East Van last year.
Many more details to follow. The NYC club is really mobilizing to host these two events, and will be working
our hardest to make them super fun and memorable. We'll flesh out this post over the coming weeks.Host club: [NYC](http://leagueofbikepolo.com/league/nyc)Location

Hey Rik, I was actually thinking of setting up a proper poll, but wanted to see if there should be other questions added to it.
But yes, if people want to volunteer or nominate someone to be ambassador then maybe this is the place to do it.
I'm thinking the poll would look something like this:
1. Who should be our ambassador? The ambassador is responsible for taking UK decisions to the World's committee, not for making the decisions.
a. john
b. bon
c. jovi
d. etc..2. How should we decide which 6 teams go?
a. 6 best teams from the UK Champs
b. divide up the number of spots by city and let cities decide on their own
c. hold another tournament
d. vote for best UK representative teams
e. first come, first in
f. points based system from a few different tournies
g. some other way....2b.*If we decide in a tournament, does it have to be the exact same line up that goes to the World's? *(keeping in mind people may not be playing at the UK's with the team that they may want to go to the World's with, there may be injuries, people moving, work commitments, money concerns, etc..)
a. yes
b. at least 2 players from that team
c. at least 1 player from that team2c. If it must be the exact lineup from the UK Champs, what happens if part or all of that lineup is unable to go?
a. That entire team is out and the place is offered to the 7th place team from the qualifying tournament- Are there any other players (who can get a team together) or teams or different team line-ups who would like a chance to play for the World's that aren't currently going to the UK Champs?"
These teams/players/line ups should say something ASAP. If there are other players/teams it would be nice if we could offer them time/place to play for the chance to go. I think we could arrange for this.
Something like that?
