Look, holding my hands up here... I was flaky as hell about this. Sorry if you PM'd me and got no response. I was starting a new job at the time, and time got away from me.
Anyway..... I'm coming to the big smoke tomorrow to see the polo and pick up a new bike. If anyone wanted this, I could bring it. The bars are gone, and the seat post has been replaced. It was apparently a bastard to get the old one out and the new one in, but it is in, and not moving, by all accounts (it's been ridden by a friend, so I don't know much about it).
If someone wanted to make an offer, then go ahead - just drop it in here, auction style. You'll have to pick it up from Liverpool Street tomorrow when I get in at about half one.
Like I said, I think everything is OK with it, but I have no time to check it out, and it won't be rideable home unless you bring bars and cables.
I know this isn't ideal, but it's all I can do. If nobody is interested then it's going in the garage for the next 40 years....

I'm writing about bikes today, anyway. I spent the day at Norfolk police HQ. A charity manager is riding to every force HQ in England, Scotland and Wales to pick up donation cheques. Nice idea, but it was a little farcical. Everyone in the building with anything resembling a bike was dragged out for a photoshoot. One and a half hours in the sun waiting for a quick chat with the bloke doing it. Nice guy, hope he gets round OK.

There is an SS version called the Sport for £250.

Look on Froogle, I just found it for £199.99. That's a bargain. Very tempted to get one for offroad jaunts and slowly upgrade bits as I snap them off...

Sturmey Archer FTW. Three gears, loads of range for a flat town, and zero maintainance.
He either won't offroad regularly, or he'll get really into it. In the first case, rent a bike, second case, buy a seperate bike.
I bought a Dawes Haarlem that has done thousands of miles, and I did my first ever repair on it this month.

...when it was OK to ask for advice?

Just wanted to say thanks, a couple of years on, for everyone who helped me out with mine.

I woke up this morning to find I'd been accepted for One & Other, a.k.a. that thing in Trafalgar Square where people are doing daft stuff in front of hundreds of tourists.
I had vague thoughts about what I'd do, but didn't think I would be given a place. Now I have to get something sorted. I had thought about doing something to promote cycling, or to highlight a cycling-related issue.
One thought was to take a ghost bike up there, and dress in white, with a t-shirt with the ghost bike website address on it. Is that a bit morbid?
Another thought was to trackstand for an hour, just for the hell of it. Not sure if they'll let me do that.
Help!
