I've just picked up a Thorn tourer (which I'd previously borrowed for a trip over the Pyrenees), and I want to spruce up the paintwork.
Has anyone taken a bike back to Thorn for paint? If that's not an option I thought I might powdercoat and get decals made. Waddyareckon?
Also, I'm replacing chainrings/cassette/chain (partially because of wear, partially because an airline broke it) - Is XT a good option for a tourer?

yeah my plan is to just use the frame, build it up from there.
and for a short while the wheelset until i can afford something a tad nicer. The stem you've used is exactly what im looking for, what cinelli stem is it? details please.
talovely bike by the way :D
I used the bike as bought for a long time, including some longer rides. Bit by bit, stuff went to the big parts bin in the sky, and I replaced it with better kit.
Eventually I had a powdercoat job and replaced the remaining gear. A good way of doing it, I thought, and one that doesn't sting the wallet all at once.
It's now being used on a 50-mile commute on rought country roads. For a track bike, it's had a funny history...
I'd always planned on getting a new frame eventually, but I wouldn't change it at all now. Cracking bike.
Not exactly sure what the stem is, because it's in the garage right now. I keep that stem/bar/lever/grips in one piece, and a drop/levers/stem, too - then I can change quickly without messing with bar tape.
I'll take a look tomorrow and let you know.

I've often thought about this. Say I won the lottery one night (I don't play, which makes this unlikely), what would I do, bike-wise?
I think I'd go to CycleFit for a full checkup, get laser-measured and order one of those steel Colnago Masters. Full Super Record kit. Swing by Condor on the way home to get fully stocked on Rapha.
Then I'd go home. The long way. The really, really long way.

Throw it in the machine, don't worry about it. Mine's been through a few times - always comes out super clean and perfectly intact. Thinking about it, I've had my Crumpler two years now, and it's still almost the same as it was new. Pricey at the time, but well worth it.
