I cleaned mine for the first time this week, and my bike went from creaky, noisy, gritty grinding to silent rolling. Well worth half an hours work in my opinion, but I doubt I'll do it often.

OK, I've just cleaned my chain with citrus de-greaser (makes everything smell wonderfully fruity) and put the chain back, all lubed up with veggie oil. It does smell a bit odd at first, I'll admit, but it seems to be doing well.

I came up to a red the other day and saw a police car waiting in the other direction, so I obviously stopped (just like I always do, every single time - safety first). Problem was, the guy 50ft behind me didn't, and casually rolled straight into me.
The police car saw this, but drove off at the green. It's a bit annoying that they fine red light jumpers, but not people who were going to run one, but used me as a brake instead and knocked me on my arse.

I'm very up for this - I've been thinking about building my own wheels for a while, but have been worried about ending up in a bloody mess surrounded by bent spokes after their first ride. This will be really helpful, thanks to everyone who's offered to help out.
To show my ignorance, what will I need to bring?
- Hubs, and rims obviously
- Spokes (any particular kind, size?)
- Nipples (any particular kind, size?)

I've just bought some citrus-based de-greaser and some veggie lubricant - if I'm going to ride a bike it seems like I should try to avoid crude-oil based products if I can.
Problem is, they might be shit. I'll let you know.

It's not in great shape; some rust, a little dent, broken cable guide... but it could maybe make a beater or polo bike.
Would suit 6' - 6' 2" rider. The only problem is that you will need to come and get it tonight as I'm moving house - it's very near to Brockwell Park.

The bog standard Amsterdam-bikes can be had for 200 Euros - pop over there, spend £200 on beer, food and ferry tickets and you've spent the same money. Just a thought.
