Truth is "Countersteering" is the ONLY way to control a bike at riding speeds. That's why it's so hard to learn when you are 6. The handlebars are for keeping your balance having initiated a turn. The only way a bike will turn right is when the rider's weight is displaced that way. It's done by turning the bars to the left to unbalance the bike, or leaning your weight to the right. What some folk find hard to understand is that there's a SPECIAL TERM for what we have all been doing since we were kids.
On your way home tonight, don't try "Countersteering". Try steering by turning the bars the way you want to go. It can't be done! It's absolute proof of the thesis that you don't need to be able to understand something scientifically to be able to do it.

Check out this video, I was waiting for something dreadful to happen.

Greetings all. I know many of you are trendy graphic designer types...
I have a blog all about bikes;
http://stopreadingthisandrideabike.wordpress.com/And I'm moving it over from Wordpress.com to a proper host;
http://fletchycorp.com/stopreadingthis/I just need to iron out the glitches, get a domain and a logo.
So, would someone be up for doing me a logo, in exchange for a few beers?
The site is called Stop Reading This and Ride a Bike.

Local news in Bristol did this the day before "Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride". They chose a route that was dual carriageway between Bristol and Bath. Not suprising the car won.
They chose a dual carriageway that ran a few miles?!! What did they imagine would happen? The car floored it at 70mph the whole way. Nice one local news.

Maybe we could dedicate a forum thread to your stint on the plinth. You could go up there with a big sheet of rolled up paper and basically read what we're posting on your iphone or whatever and write it on the sheet of rolled up paper with a big marker pen so everyone in the square can see our valuable opinions about art and bikes and so on.
That's interesting. I could take a whiteboard and write messages on it that are sent to my Twitter account.
Is that the winning idea, it feels a bit like it...

I just got a tour of the factory and chatted to the MD. Nice guy. No ride, unfortunately, so I can't comment on the product yet, but after hearing the background I am curious and looking forward to seeing it.
Hoping to get a ride soon, will let you know what it's like. For £25,000 it should be bloody amazing.

I think ghost bike, white clothes, white makeup and t shirt with URL of ghost bike website, or maybe some stats about cyclist deaths.
I know it's a bit morbid, but it's an issue, and that's sort of what the plinth is all about. I would like to highlight cycling being fun, but without being allowed to circle around the top with a big grin on my face I don't see how I can do that.
