It must be tough being a politician: you know you need to cut emissions, but you also want a growing economy. The thing is, if you fuck about making weak decisions for another couple of decades then we're all fucked. You simply can't be expanding airports and building urban motorways any more. Madness.

It'll be every ten minutes or so, and only have space for half a dozen bikes. Who wants to ride when you might have to wait 20 minutes on a round-trip, even if you don't have to wait for multiple buses because it's busy? And over time the frequency will drop, there'll be outages, and it'll get so shit that nobody ever uses it - look at the bike service on QE2...
The solution was building a walking/cycling bridge but the Mayor scrapped it. He's done a lot of good, but this tunnel is a fucking mess.

The problem is that if you remove the traffic jams (which I'm not sure this will even do) then driving becomes more attractive, more people do it, and you get more jams. It's impossible to simply build away congestion. I think Sadiq inherited this project, saw how much it would cost to cancel, imagined the headlines that would cause, and just let it rumble along to completion. Pretty weak Mayoring, IMO. Should have pulled the plug and publicly pinned the huge loss on the Tories.

We have two like (but not identical to) this: https://www.diy.com/departments/pack-of-2-indoor-outdoor-small-humane-mice-mouse-rat-rodent-trap-catcher-cage/5021196016670_BQ.prd
I'm going to try gluing a penny or two to the trigger pad today, because we've suspiciously never caught a solo mouse. The two I caught together were tiny. Your house mouse sounds terrifying - like one of those angry young men on steroids who scream at you from a BMW 1 Series.

I bought something on eBay, the seller shipped it with Yodel and they left it on the doorstep where it was stolen. The seller has an "item delivered" email, although the picture is of the package just sat on my doorstep, door closed. Just got told by eBay that I won't be getting a refund and that I need to take it up with Yodel - they gave me a link to contact them on, which doesn't work. Do I have any recourse? Whole thing has really annoyed me.

We hired an expert because they know what they're doing and can get results. But he's less attached to original features than I am, and I'm just looking to strike a balance. That fireplace has been in the house since it was built 130 years ago and I think it would be nice to keep it here. It's an attractive thing and it's part of the history of the house. Nobody's had a fire in it for decades. I do appreciate that ditching the breast would make the room much bigger though, and am into that idea. Just trying to fumble my way through these decisions and am looking for some middle ground if it exists.

Architect did indeed roll his eyes. I'm a little torn. The chimney breast on ground floor is going, for good reasons, and he wants to get rid of it on first floor too. But I don't want to lose a nice original feature. Totally fine with it being a bit fake and against a wall with no actual chimney behind though. Other option is to put it in our main bedroom, where there would have been one, but has long since been removed.
-
Our architect wants to remove the chimney breast in one of our bedrooms as part of his plan for our extension, but there's a cast iron fireplace in there that I'd like to keep. Is it mad to remove the breast, but re-install it against the wall? It's only there for aesthetics - not for fires! They must recess into the wall a bit, but would it be too much to make it work?

I'm fond of lavender and had one weird, tree-like leggy plant in the garden when I moved in. Every time I've bought a plant for the garden I've filled the empty pot with lavender cuttings. They always look dead and hopeless, but if you leave them a few more weeks they pick up. I've got a dozen of them on the go now, and they'll all go in the garden eventually.

I'm getting party wall agreements sorted for an extension at the moment. One neighbour has waved it through on option 1, but the other is going for option 2 - what's that likely to cost me? I've already paid £1,400 for the party wall guy...
