a month ago i snapped my chain in croydon about half a mile from evans. walked there asked to borrow a chain tool ,wouldnt let me.he offered to sell me a new chain,so i said if i buy the chain can i borrow a chain tool to fit.... he said no. so i went to the shoe menders and he gave me a piece of thick wire ,i repaired bike and then slowly rode it home. fuck EVIL EVANS
bike shops do not have to lend their tools to you, depending on the shop a damaged tool may come out of the mechanics pay. Do I trust most people out there with my Park Bros £30 chain breaking tool?? HELL NO
No offence, but I did a check point for an alley cat a few years back where you had to break and then fix your chain before going on... this was a courier only alley cat. I had brought an extra length of chain just incase and 2 tools.
I was shocked by how many working couriers (who should in my opinion be able to do most basic repairs themselves because its related to their job) could not do this.
More than a few had to have a quick word about it with me, as they were nervous of wrecking their chain. One actually broke my tool. (not the park one)True story.
Don't give the bike shop greif or call them bad names if they don't let you use their tools. I admit to having been denied tools when in need as well and it is annoying.. VERY ANNOYING but the reality is that mechanic has no reason to believe that you know anything about the proper use of the tool.

hmm well it looked like a pretty damn nice frame which is lugged but very well made i think
its way nicer then either of the 2 links jacqui put up
its defs a very old frame though and its 57cm which mite even be a lil big for me
and yea the price is quite alot, but quality is never cheap
and i want a frame i can keep for a long timethose definately are not the best ones i have seen.
Good luck with the frame, post pics when you can. -

Based on what I have seen of his work it (should) be a pretty nice frame.
I've seen Hurlow's Holdsworths go for that (frame and fork) so if you're into vintage bikes it could be not an obscene amount.
Having said that if dude is just looking for a first fix or street hack, I'd say its a lot of dough. -
good job gabes! Glad you're not worse. ;)
