Getting the most out of our brief week of summer. Whose up for a couple of laps round Richmond Park TONIGHT!!
A friend wants to do it, after I told him about last weeks cycling extravaganza, and so thought it would be good to spread the love to the rest of the west london fgss splintergroup. If people are up for it, we'll meet like last time at the cafe/pub area down the road to the left as you turn into richmond park from Roehampton gate. I'm thinking 6.30-7.00pmSo who else is going to sign up.
Find below the ubiquitous list.Saying Aye to a couple of laps round Richmond Park

bit late to this and most of what I'm going to say has already been spoken about,
but I rode an old kona cindercone for 15 odd years, thinking it was all right for me, only to do a cycle fitting with roger @ mosquito and find out that I'd been wrecking myself all that time. All the aches and pains I used to get riding, sore neck, shoulders etc, all gone now. Plus I feel quicker and feel like i can ride for longer. In actuality Iphysically might not be any quicker but you know its all in the head.
would advise everyone to get fitted properly, makes a hell of a lot of difference. plus you get many a print out that gives you information for the perfect custom fit for you, so you can just send out your info to bike maker of choice and get them to build you the perfectly sized bike. You can figure out the ins and outs of sizing via trial and error, and most people usually do, but to find out definitively best to get sized.
I will now stride nonchalantly into the sunshine for a pint....

Ahh.. I thought it was fixed. I've seen a similar machine to that before.. possibly the same one. Lots of club racers are using deep dish rims now.
Scary thinking about the cost of a crash!
Think it was on here: http://londoncyclesport.com but I can't get any of the "Your Bikes" pages to load.[/quote]thats the thing being on a fixed forum, everytime I say I like this or that bike everyone assumes its fixed, must make myself clearer next time...
Mouse Saw a bloke on a Cervelo Soloist Carbon with Zipp rims on Holland Park Ave this morning. Fully togged up with Rapha shirt (not pink Hippy) - everything screaming 'all the gear, no idea'. I pulled up and was trackstanding next to him, having a bit of a chat (basically about how nice his kit was). As the light changed we were still chatting - I pulled off, he went for his pedal, didn't engage and very nearly ended up on his arse. Conversation ended there as I carried on and he floundered in the middle of the road. I'm ashamed to admit that it made my morning.
Truth is, I'm only jealous of his kit and really sorry if it's anyone on this forum! ;o)
LOL. Very amusing, though I'm pretty sure we've all had pedal moments like that, I almost had one last night...

nimhbus ok, i'll be at Roehampton gate, at 7, with my hair in a braid.
is that the meeting point that David K has pointed out in places? I'm thinking not as its inside the park. Point me in the direction of Roehampton gate and I'll try and spin the tired legs there for seven.

hippy What time and where?
to be honest I have no idea, cough never actually ridden round richmond park cough so know no landmarks, local pubs etc.
Usually finish work about 6ish, so can get there I'm assuming in appprox 20mins half an hour. so 6.30 or so, tool round park for a couple of laps in vaguely social/competitive fashion, followed by beers, and admiring of bikes after until the sun goes down and I ride back to stockwell. If you have a meeting place in mind, put it down and I'll jump on your bandwagon

Dunwich Destroyed Me Sorry, just been an idiot and didn't see your last post Cornelius. Meant I'm in for west side gatherings.
This Thursday I'm not sure. My leg's still stiff as a board from Dunwich. :(
lol don't worry, its understandable, dunwich sounded like it was really fscking hard, looking forward to, slightly scared of attempting it next year.
so right now, its just little ol' me for a trek round richmond park

Those DT swiss rims are nice, but they're even heavier than Deep Vs which is a little off putting - (580g (DT) vs 520g (Deep V) vs 430g (CXP-33)). I'm a pretty big fan off the Mavic CXP-33 as alternative to Deep-Vs, they're a little lighter and build into decent track/street wheels.See now I'm getting all squirrely, when people say a wheel is heavy, how heavy is heavy, got some campag scirocco rims on my soma which are 770g front and 955g rear, and they feel light to me, (coming from a very old mountain bike) so the DT's would be half of what I've already got, going to get them built to 32 hole red phils. The Mavic's I haven't even thought about, though I know lots of boys on here swear by them. Decisions, decisions...
-
eeehhhh Are you really that desperate for deep Vs? They weigh quite a fair bit and if you're just riding on the street the aero benefits are negligible.
off the back of that, geezer at my LBS (brixton cycles) had issues with deep V's, said they never came through "true" and that i should invest in a pair of dt swiss RR 1.2
http://www.dtswiss.com/index.asp?fuseaction=rims.bikedetail&id=16
obviously not available in the wide range of colours but about £40, and without stickers would look fairly swish imho
