If so, and you are planning on going back to England, you can take a bike on the night train to Paris, then jump on the Eurostar - the ticket for the whole journey could be bought from Rail Europe though you'd need to pay extra to Eurostar to take a fully assembled bike on the train...
If you live in Hook of Holland then ignore everything I just said...

I've tried searching both the forum and Google for the answer to this, and can't find it - I'm sure this is due to my own stupidity rather than the information being unavailable...
Does anyone know which tool I will need to remove a Miche Primato chainset? I have two crank pullers, both Shimano, and neither work...
I'm aware that the actual BB, which is also Miche Primato will need a Campag fitting BB tool, which I'll get hold of, it's just the cranks I'm stuck with...

I have for sale a pair of Schwalbe Sammy Slick 700x35 cyclocross tyres for sale. These were on a Cannondale cyclocross bike I bought, rode home 6 miles and removed the tyres.
They are new minus 6 miles...

Right, this is it, the flagship Audax Club Hackney event for 2014, a 200km Audax from Harringay (Audax Club Hackney HQ is currently situated in Harringay - you could always add an impromtu prologue from Hackney Town Hall if you wanted) out to Cambridge and back.

Paraphrasing the actual event details - "...Cafe control at Ickleton, a control at Corpus Christi University Cambridge and rhen another cafe control at Puckeridge... then back for an all inclusive Audax Club Hackney barbeque at ACH HQ (I assume this means Justins house)... Seasonal menu is based upon the local Turkish styles which are typical of this particular part of North London. Items on offer will include freshly dressed salads, Turkish bread, rice and bulgar wheat with lamb/chicken/Falafal kebabs as well as the normal barbecue offerings. And also... wait for it... free beer tokens for The Stags Head pub. Join us to help make this ride the perfect way to wind down after a busy season...
So there it is, 200km from London to Cambridge and back again, ending with a BBQ and the pub, and if it rains, a BBQ and the pub.
I should point out, the cost is higher than a number of typical Audaxs, but the cost with this one is higher because it includes food at the end and of course, booze... it'll be worth the money!

Ludwig - are you trying to ride a DIY Audax tomorrow that follows the route of the Great Escape Audax?
Your post above suggests you are, but that it's not been done in an Audax-enough fashion (remember that Audax is fundamentally for old men in spd sandles, and be glad that you don't have to send everything by post anymore...) - here is my guide to DIY's...
First you need to register as a member of Audax UK, then buy a DIY Brevet card, then submit a proposal for the route (or simply the controls) the the relevant DIY organiser, then when they confirm that it's okay (as in, long enough for your proposed distance) you ride, and send them back reciepts/ GPS....
I've never bothered with DIY's as it's a massive hassle and to be honest, pointless (except of course, if you are collecting points, in which case its pointfull...)

What about using part of this route - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-312/#more - to plan a coast to coast, this goes to some really nice places, and you'll be able to get a copy of either a paper route sheet or gpx easily. You could start anywhere en route and ake it from there, plenty of places to camp along the way as well.

Which coast to coast were you planning? From what you are saying you want to do a touring type holiay, in which case I'd go with whatever bike will cry stuff most comfortably, in terms of wheels, 26" is perfectly good, and riding 60 miles a day fully loaded would be fine, though I personally wouldn't go with too much more in terms of mileage! You'll obviously be much slower than riding an unloaded road bike, but who cares, it's about touring, not racing!

It's difficult to argue against raising money for charity, so in that sense then it's a good idea - but I agree with the Cake Dr in that the issue could be around asking people to hand over the money - I've never done a charity ride, and would only do so if the cause was something that seemed relevant to myself (ie, relative has cancer, so thus raise money for a cancer charity...) as I reckon that would generate the most donations. I'd figured that you could only really do one or two charity rides before people got bored of handing over their money to you or started making unreasonable demands for what event you would need to do next...
If you do this I'll give you 10 Euros in Berlin!

I should know the answers to most of these questions...
Basically, after entering, and nearing the event, you'll be sent a copy of a route sheet, and the gpx. file, I think the two week deadline is more for organisers to know how many people are riding the events, which impacts on the organisation of certain controls (a village hall that has been hired, for example).
In terms of validation, I imagine Tim would want the Brevet card with either stamps, or reciepts from controls in it for validation - this can be collected at the end of the ride instead of having to deal with gps tracks being sent via email. There are organisers that will simply accept the gps on its own, but it's down to the organiser.
As you say, there is an issue with using gps that you miss the controls - the only remedy I think is to keep in mind where, or when you are likely to encounter a control - if its a town then that's easy, but a info control would require you to simply remember roughly at what KM point on the ride the info is at...
I wouldn't rely on the gps track to come with a marker, though I know they exist...

That was on exceptionally wet ride, if the water wasn't coming from the skies it was flooding the roads or being sprayed up from riders wheels...
None the less, finished, and managed to ride an additional 60km home as well... started at 6am, home by midnight...
KT - I'm impressed you even attempted to ride today, I can't walk anymore...

it's basically cheap beer sold out of ramshackle shop fronts in giant buckets that the locals sit around drinking all evening - it's not massively strong, but then if you drink enough of it (it's basically free) you can get appropriately drunk.
