One other question, what do you mean by a higher state of consciousness, do you simply mean to 'focus' your mind, to blank out or remove certain thoughts ?
I am not too clear on what is often meant by the phrase.
I suspect my goal is to achieve a lower state of consciousness, I kind of like lots of thoughts all fighting each other, it's a fucking war in here sometimes - I tell ya' !
:P
Yes exactly for example ZEN buddism teaches detachment from thought through the practice of meditation...this is how the Samuari could detatch from feeling fear in combat ...on a more mundane level if your life is full of fear or full of regrets or full of both ... you can find yourself in a place where you are full of negativity ... detachment from thought allows for the transmutation of negative to positive energy...

Is there any way of measuring this, by that I mean if we had 10 people with their backs turned - all stood in the same pose, with identical body language would Tolle (or any proponent of this idea) claim to be able to sense whether someone is 'giving off' 'positivity' or 'negativity' - or positive or negtive 'energy' ?
Or would they need to interact with the person, need to see them face to face or talk to them, in which case I would suggest the reading of this person's 'energy' is simply their 'mood' (their state of mind) picked up through known indicators like body language, tone of language, facial expression and all the other more subtle give aways ?
Tynan I don't think I would disagree. The point that the new agers argue though is that this positivity comes from a peace of mind that arises from a connection with an 'inner self' which is in turn 'connected' to everyone elses 'inner self' and every other object in the universe.
My own view is that equinimity is something worth working for. With this in mind I am working towards developing a regular meditation practice and I am trying to become an observer of my own mind. I do think that it is possible though to achieve a higher state of consciousness and if by doing so I find that I develop a sudden connection with my inner self you will be the first to know.

riiiiiiight. so he really likes electricity transformers? massive vibrating coil and magnetic AND electric fields FTW.
Energy doesn't necessarily have to be electromagnetic energy. What Tolle refers to is the concept that people give off postivity or negativity according to what is going on inside. In new age parlance people talk of positive or negtive energy fields or good or bad vibes. Chicks love this stuff because they tend to be more in touch with their emotions and consequently pick up on emotions in others more easily. This is why Tolle is on the Oprah best seller list. Personally I quite like some of his ideas particularly those pertaining to being 'present' and keeping it in the 'now'.

***When you say Being, are you talking about God? If you are, then why don't you say it?
***The word God has become empty of meaning through thousands of years of misuse. I use it sometimes, but I do so sparingly. By misuse, I mean that people who have never even glimpsed the realm of the sacred, the infinite vastness behind that word, use it with great conviction, as if they knew what they are talking about. Or they argue against it, as if they knew what it is that they are denying. This misuse gives rise to absurd beliefs, assertions, and egoic delusions, such as "My or our God is the only true God, and your God is false," or Nietzsche's famous statement "God is dead."
The word God has become a closed concept. The moment the word is uttered, a mental image is created, no longer, perhaps, of an old man with a white beard, but still a mental representation of someone or something outside you, and, yes, almost inevitably a male someone or something.
Neither God nor Being nor any other word can define or explain the ineffable reality behind the word, so the only important question is whether the word is a help or a hindrance in enabling you to experience That toward which it points. Does it point beyond itself to that transcendental reality, or does it lend itself too easily to becoming no more than an idea in your head that you believe in, a mental idol?
The word Being explains nothing, but nor does God. Being, however, has the advantage that it is an open concept. It does not reduce the infinite invisible to a finite entity. It is impossible to form a mental image of it. Nobody can claim exclusive possession of Being. It is your very essence, and it is immediately accessible to you as the feeling of your own presence, the realization I am that is prior to I am this or I am that.

If someone wants to steal your bike that much then they will. However I do the following to try and make it as hard as possible - I hope I never had to suffer the pain of losing a bike.
- Insurance (I use Butterworths)
- Photos of my bikes along with detailed components on immobilise
- Pitlocks on the front wheel, seatpost and headset
- ball bearings glued in allen nuts on stem
- Two locks at all times. two mini evo's if i'm local and in a relatively low risk area. NY lock and FUG Chain if i'm soho/hackney or anywhere central
- Never leave the bike anywhere overnight (except my flat)
- Lock it somewhere public or where I can see it if poss
- Xena disc lock alarm on chain ring as an extra fuck off to thieves.
All this has cost me quite a bit of money, but I love my bike and its worth it.
Is there a means to keep the saddle attached to the seatpos with resorting to a chain thru the seat-rail..? I want to ride my new Cinelli to the jim

My friend Thomas visting from NY has the same frame in maroon and he said that BJ had done a great job. I know technically black isn't an option for this frame but with this saddle and Italian flag bar tape - its going to look good - still looking for a stem, rims and gum wall tires - all told it came to less than six hundred pounds. Which is still alot but a lot less than buying one new. Thanks guys X

Met Lance last night at a post-race cocktail party/livestrong art exhibition. He arrived at around 9.30 PM surrounded by a throng of security guys + important peeps, was ushered in a room of the art gallery for a while, with Tom Sachs, Ed Rusha and other artists, then came and mingled with us. I took him aside and asked him if he'd want to play polo. He said he's seen pictures of it, and thought it was interesting. I reminded him about his tall bike antics and he said something like "as long as it's got two wheels and handlebars I'll ride anything..."
Anyway he was really nice and seemed pretty open minded.
We all drank tequila shots from Tom Sachs' Lance Tequila Bike For GirlsSuperted was drunk.

Not a bad expo that ...but why did they put all the cool bikes in the garden?

I might be inclined to aggree if it hadn't been in a queue of traffic on a straight road, surely when he looked in his mirrors before taking the the turn he would have seen me coming?
What makes you think he was looking in his mirrors ? even if he glanced you could have been in his blind spot - over time you learn to drift to the centre of the road whenever there is any possibility or a car turning in front of you like that - if you do get caught - you can go round with the car leaning on the roof and banging for them to slow down

That's such bullshit. Armstrong trained as hard as many of his peers when he first turned pro yet he was an also ran when it came to the Tour. Then he starts working with Dr Michele Ferrari and suddenly he's the best time triallist and climber in the race. To those who believe the myth this is due to weight loss post cancer and hard training. Not drugs. To those who see through the myth this is due to the wholesale doping program he's on, evidenced by the positive test for EPO on his 1999 urine samples in 2005.
He's a fraud, like many of his peers.
So how does an athlete systematically avoid being caught doping? Armstrong on tweeter stated that he had been spot tested eleven times during this tour - that is pretty much every other day - and aren't they checked in the off season as well?

Because he was so tall I take it..:)
