I think the site is lovely as-is. :-)
I do have one suggestion, both for revenue (I know thats not what you asked for!) and a damn nifty tool itself is this auction watch gizmo at retrobike - I've found it an easy way to search across multiple global sites, and the keywords are all there for obvious stuff.. $£EURO?
The fixie FAQs are already there, and I doubt there are many london-specific things to add. The marketplace would be good for local suppliers (dealers?). -
I ride flat bars that are almost 2 feet wide! thinking about some barends too. About the drop-bars, it's all good!
That was an off-the cuff comment, because I think 42-16 should be a rideable gear and perhaps some underinflated tyres are causing the sluggishness?
Coming from MTB, 1980s road brakes will seem poor. Is it time to start upgrading / replacing already? Not unless you want to. (I recommend BMX levers,)
Read a bit of Sheldon on braking adjustment and have fun with your new bike tekkaberg. :-) -

The stem will only slip if it is loose, not necessarily your headset..
It sounds like you have a threadless setup and are not clamping the stem to the steerer, but only tightening the top-cap (which is ONLY meant to pre-load the bearings).
Threadless:- Loosen these bolts (or similar) which clamp the stem to the steerer tube.

- Adjust the pre-load (using the top allen bolt) till the headset is as you desire.
- Tighten the bolts to clamp the stem to the steerer.
- profit.
- Loosen these bolts (or similar) which clamp the stem to the steerer tube.

A little discussion and background there too..
