But still you gotta look out for people. There was a lot of splitting up due to the nature of the treasure hunt.
One guy had a massive nail through his tyre! Someone else's rear wheel jammed! Puncture to a (650?) HED Trispoke. (Hope it wasn't a tub). I saw 3 punctures in the first 20mins. I was dreading a flat in that weather. I'm making it sound like a bad night....it wasn't. Just my sweatshirt and jeans weren't up to it yet the hat kept my head totally dry. Might have to become new riding necessity.I had the bowler hat with the floating lightbulb! ;-)

Well I just got back after deciding enough was enough! I couldn't believe the turnout though! People stuck to their guns and some of the costumes were hilarious. Photoben covered in ivy as was his bike! (Vine St) and as for the guy who came as a green hotel! Amazing! At first I thought how on earth is he going to ride with that on...but in the end was jealous of his cozy dry waterproof hotel! Then there was the tax man type thief/superhero! (Mouse). And a few jailers. Slamm...great minds think alike! There should be pics tomorrow.
It's mad out there. I opted for costume over waterproofs which is why I couldn't go on. I was drenched and freezing and the roads are crazy. Sorry to vanish as we got closest to my area. It was a split second decision. I wanted warm dryness!
Thanks to Dogs for trying to keep it all together with a smile (and massive backpack which looked bigger than himself).
The treasure hunt seemed to bow down to the rain. Wasn't sure if anyone was actually recording anything down. Not easy to write on a soaking treasure map. Prizes looked great though.
Saw a few punctures and bike probs yet unlike previous rides, most people moved on to get to the map points and checkpoints.
It was still brilliant and had I have gone with the waterproofs I'd still be there.
Hope you all have a great night and go easy.
Shame you didn't make it David but at least you're safe. -

That's horrible. You have a decent lock and want to nip into the shop for 2 minutes...and gone.
If we really wanted to catch them....
One person with bike (looking like they're on their own) locks up nice bike and goes into supermarket...
Whilst...on foot (pretending to be on own) we all walk up and down the road like 'regulars' with eyes on bike...waiting to pounce?
I've seen gangs down there though and wouldn't like to tackle them. Only the police could do it and they're not interested.
What I will say...
The police rescue tons of bike from theives around there and they end up at the police auction around the corner. The stolen bikes thread should be 'private' so only members can see. Then at least we'd be able to monitor who's checking the thread right?
Or is that as bad as giving out ID cards?
Thieves might be watching... -

Sharp angle. Definitely a 24". Search the bay for time trial wheels.
@Conan: You will find what you're looking for at Billy's BMX. They're great!
One at the top is actually white. Search their ebay store before you go on their site. ;-)

You're worrying more about the look of the bike rather than riding fixed for the first time.
Don't put yourself in such a pickle!
Ask yourself the questions and you'll find the answer...It isn't possible for us to give you the answer. That's because it's a personal project.
There's also much more fun finding things out yourself rather than us telling you what you think you need to know.
Everyone here rides completely different bikes. You can always chop and change. Dogsballs will testify to that.
You're in a great position. Enjoy it! ;-)
@Superprecise. But isn't that made of buublegum? Bring back the fade!!!

todd, i've been keeping an eye out for clements. hopefully some tub sealant that provenrad has for me will work, not that it will see the road that much. i'm about to build up some 27" clinchers, but still not sure, will probably sell those.
Some are made in Taiwan though.
Couldn't find any Dunlops! (English) You might find Dunlop for 27" clincher...
I used spray sealant which was good but knackered the valve in the end.
Rode for ages with no punctures until I was miles from nowhere with a gash which was too big for the sealant to close up.
Used a cheap (Conti Giro £13 Evans) spare tub un-glued which was absolutely fine to get me home.
A nice tubular holder hanging from the bike seat would be nice. ;) -
Velocipede
* slaytanic1* Officer, officer, my bike has just been stolen!
Officer* What colour was it son?
Slaytanic1* Ehhhh......Pink, white, dark blue, light blue, brown, red - well more burgundy really - black, lime, light green, dark green, white, and yellow. Mostly pink though.
Ohhh and white grips and back wheel. and black saddle and front wheel... i think.
Why would they steal my bike from Slaytanic1?!! ;-)
Or is he just pretending it was my bike he was riding! ha ha!
He did actually have a go on it recently...never again as you've jinxed it! -
If there's a lot of business given to the pub by cyclists, it should be in the pub's interest to look after them.
The George is a haven for thieves, yet people continue to take their bikes.
It's not fair that you should give in to these thieves and leave bikes at home, but they're giving you all such hard times.
It's obviously such a talking point amongst thieves. A regular hotspot.
Unfortunately, no matter where you go they'll try find you...
...but wouldn't it be great to find a place where the pub could protect your bikes. -
Very nice. Wonderful to see such a classic British bike. Hard to believe it all started as that tatty black frame. Well done sir!
I hope you've been studying the 'Vintage' version monopoly board if you're riding this on the night.Good luck with the tubs. I've just swapped mine out for some vintage Mavic clinchers. I gashed my NOS Clement's beyond repair! :-(
So nice to ride though. You need some 'Sepia' photographs of you with the bike now. Timeless. -
dogsballs
this is begging for a fluoro yellow or pink rolls saddle. the white wheel, is too plain, need something bright. this is wicked!! a spinergy would look good on the front ;)Yeah but aint your spinergy a 700c? ;-)
There's over the top and then there's OVER THE TOP!
It makes me dizzy enough without the fluro saddle!

Superprecise is that top tube made of bubblegum??!
Yes it is. Bubble gum is lighter than carbon and has good flex. And it can be remoulded to any geometry! ;)
Bar Wrap:

OMG!

@asm
That's a shame. Always a risk with tubs. :-/
It's still raining like mad out there.
Wonder how they're all feeling....?
Sure we'll find out soon enough...
