But tubulars have a tube just sewn inside anyway. It's not really one piece.
You have to unpick them and reveal the tube if you ever wanted to fix the punture (old way).
There's certainly benefits when it comes to pressure and rolling resistance but regarding being lightweight, it's arguable.

I've never punctured my axial pro's and it's been a long time.
You can get panaracer tyre lining which adds extra kevlar to the tyre.
I use it on a rear 700c axial and so far no probs.

Gatorskins are cool and more puncture resistant. Conti have a few options inc the Triathlon and the Grand Prix.
