Heh. I accidentally bought 165's as replacement for my broken crankz, I thought they were 175's for ages and it was strange how much easier it was to spin - not massively, but it was certainly noticeable. I thought my pedaling technique had improved until I checked the crank length out of curiosity one day. what a disappointment!

i suppose another possibility is that one of his parents/ relatives is loaded and bought it him because all the other kids have got them.
although if you're a bmxer its easy to tell a 'proper bmxer's bike' from a bog standard off-the-shelf bmx, so it does arouse suspicion when you see someone who's clearly not a 'proper bmxer' riding one.

Well dfp dan is right, but you are right that the leverage does make a difference. As you obviously know, longer lever = less force requiered to move a certain load, so longer cranks = a bit easier to pedal. But for a given gear ratio, the same distance is travelled per crank revolution regardless of crank length, thus the gear inche value remains the same. Gear inches ain't telling you exactly how difficult it's gonna be to pedal, just how far you're gonna travel per crank rev.

I'm sick of you fakenscooters appropriating our sub-culture and turning into some hipster fad.
Scooters are a practical low maintenance method for couriers to get round the the city.
You're ride looks like you just bought it pre-fab from toys'r'us, (your deep t bars are lame btw) I spent months sourcing my parts.
Why don't you just go back to Shoreditch?!Bah, you sound like a certain ex-fakenger who has the "only I'm allowed to ride fixed because I used to be a messenger for a couple of summer months, and all the other non-messengers are just posers" attitude. You should lighten up and stop getting angry at other people who choose this beautiful scooter-based lifestyle.

Straight up broad street, straight on under the roundabout (or 3rd exit if you go over the roundabout), and then straight on up the road for about 3 mile. It's impossible to get lost if you take that route - however, I got lost on a straight road once. I was pissed and tried to ride my bmx from my house (just off Hagley rd) to the 24 hour booze shop that was about 2 miles away, on Hagley road. Luckily it was closed (24 hour my arse!), otherwise I would have had a much worse hangover the next day. But when I tried to get back home, I ended up in the Jewellery quarter :-S must have tried to get back via the back streets and taken a wrong turning.
