mashton on the ghayest bike eva! Russel square. Good to see ya, glad you're healing up. Nice to see the bling bike.
Yeah, my first day back on the bike and I got a Mouse spot in the mornign and a Tommy spot in the evening. Surely an omen, I think?
BTW, Tommy - The slack chain is why your track stand was so rubbish :-)

OK, Chris Crash is trying to hijack this, so let's make sure we all come along tomorrow night and combine forces.
Same place?
-
Chris, are you stealing my drinks night?
Maybe we should combine the threads?

The tip that got me skidding was to lock straight your left leg at the bottom of roation whilst subsequently pulling up with the right leg. This shifts your bum up a bit as the pedals rotate, moving weight forward onto your arms, hence easier to skid. It's less scaery than doing the balls to stem thing.
Also, find some nice level grass to practice on, the lower friction makes learning easier. Ditto wet, smooth tarmac. Just make sure to do it ina straight line, otherwise you can fall over and be in PAIN.

Right then, I am now going to apply some HTFU to myself.
Kind of against medical advice, but in the spirit of "let's find out how well I am really healing", I am going to embark upon this ride. It'll be 5.5 weeks since my accident, with the consultant telling me that the bone should be totally healed in 6 weeks. Round 5.5 up, hey presto.
I may bail after the first 4 miless or so, depending on how it feels.
Look after me in the bunch guys.

+1 Corny plan, camel bag full of goddies
On Sunday, in the stupid heat, my brother bumped into a couple of young lads mountain biking over some pretty exposed hillside in Cheltenham, right in the hottest part of the day.
He got chatting to them and noticed that they had bottles of Magners in their cages. he commented that they were wise to have camelbaks of water as well. Their response:
"Nah mate, they're full of homebrew scrumpy. GL, we calls it. Short for 'Gloucester Lager.'"
They had certainly hardened the fuck up and no mistake.

Hell yeah, power tools versus metal is the kind of test I am intereted in. Who has got the right tool? (fnar fnar)
Also, @vinylvillain - I just put the mini in my back jeans pocket, works a treat and never gets in the way, which I was worried about...

But surely the difference is that rims are a good deal cheaper than frames, so given time you could still steal the entire bike except for one wrecked rim.
Yes, that is true, my point was more about difficult it is to cut through rims - they are under compresion so trap a hacksaw blade. It's a power tool kind of job - enough for me to leave without worrying, but probably not overnight in secluded, scuzzy area.

If Jonny does it on 70" then a mere mortal would be looking at about 65" :-)
Do not underestimate the Jonny!
