Mel Allwood does a good one available through Brixton Cycles or the net. Its very good and has lots of detail on the difficult bits. She teaches bike maintainance for Lambeth Cyclists and the class is worth doing. -

"If you've ever tried to have products made in the UK, you'd apreciate how
hard it is to get craftsmanship and reliable delivery. I wish it was
otherwise."
If they really sent this reply it is a disgrace and they should be outed for anti-British bias on every cycling website and I would hope dropped by any British cycling club who they sponsor. Whatever about producing stuff abroad, I think its an accepted tradition of capitalism, rubishing native craftspeople in this way is very damaging to our economy and could result in companies going abroad who would otherwise create jobs in Britain. -

TheBrick Britsh food and vegan do not do together.
At the risk of being a grumpy old so and so what rot. Veganism is a British tradition and most of the western ethical case for animal welfare, veganism and vegitarianism stems from the original vegan society in the UK set up in 1944!) That’s over 60 yrs vegans have been cooking casseroles, setting jellies, stuffing pies, roasting potatoes and veg, stewing stew, simmering soup, rolling vegan bangers to go with liquer and mash and making seitan (the English equivalent to tofu made from gluten) in the British Isles.

As a cyclist I dislike the mini cab (sorry I meant illegal mini cab not hackney cab) and hate the un-insured, non taxed, MOT failing vehicle. Dodgy taxies usually thick both these boxes. In Brixton/Camberwell/Hackney it is common to see them knock someone down and just run away abandoning the car and passenger. They also seem to have a disproportionate number of rapists in their number according to TFL/London Met.

http://www.squatter.org.uk/about.html and http://www.56a.org.uk both do good services for squatters. The SA used to do a good book on your rights and had a download notice for display on the door.
The trouble with squatting is you need to have someone in the property all the time or the owner can come and change the locks back and evict you or junkies brake in and turn your squat and possessions into a crack house. Most long term squatters don't have many personal possessions as a result which is odd because I saved £5000 while working and squatting for under a year.I used to go to new Covent Garden to get fruit and veg which was being dumped by the traders (who came to buy stuff there to sell on in different markets all over the capital). Typically stuff was being dumped because one or two items in a tray of 30 had been mashed and they would have to wash the stuff to use it themselves, the lazy wasteful bastards!
I had some freegan (free-vegan) friends who used to hang out at sandwich places after lunch hour and pick up free sandwiches being dumped because the new stock had arrived and the date was up that day. I don't eat meat or dairy so this never appealed much to me but is a good way of getting a free meal if you’re that way inclined. If you are homeless or squatting the Victoria vets hospital will treat your pet for free and provide say flee collars etc to you for the animal (sorry hippy they don't do human ones).
Bendy buses and the overground are the best way to get around London for free after cycling.
Never pay a fine or let a TFL person who is not a police officer detain you. They are not the police and don't have the right (or insurance to protect them if they are attacked trying to detain a fair dodger so most wont risk dealing with a confrontational person so get out of there before they can group up). TFL people cannot take your oyster card out of a wallet in your hand unless you pass it to them (this would be an illegal search unless they are transport police) so if you are on the bendy bus the scanner made a beep, your not an expert on what each beep means and this is your stop and your in a rush to protest a farmers convention so must leave immediately before a police man can arrive and help enforce the fine! Finally don't pay illegal cabs if there is a group of you. They are probably on the rock and roll or illegally working asylum seekers so if in numbers get out away from your front door and ask to see their taxi licence. If they can't produce one, tell them you cannot morally support stealing from the state so please f off. If they persist in requesting payment tell them you’re going to ring the police and give their licence plate if they don't get lost. Be warned some carry weapons so be ready to run and try not to pick a car with Arnie driving.

My Mrs rides a Fuji Track SE which we got on ebay for about 150 new. Its got 650c wheels which is a bit of a pain but she likes the ride which I worked out to be between 48-49cm. Its not for sale but she could try out Mrs N's for size if your living near brixton then keep an eye on ebay. It does have flat bars instead of drops now though and new tires and brakes.

I'm kind of with mindreader here (perhaps he read mine). This thread is very inane and really who gives a god-damn shit outside of secondary school/university what people are wearing.
If people want to wear some kind of camp stereo-type cycling uniform like the person in the first pic posted has on good for them, but telling others what to wear and name calling lycra guys gay is as dorky as the Xmen mountain bike video. -
If it helps swing you Mel who does lambeth cyclists maintainance classes uses one in the class. When I attended the class I saw it used successfully for 6 weeks by a group of novices without failure (well one person blew their tube up by putting too much pressure in but that was the persons fault and the pump still worked).

Its great and comes with a saddlebag. You can also buy replacement parts (the rubber bits which connect to the valve) when its worn, which is always a good sign that something is built with longterm durability in mind. I'd say its better than a track pump for someone with limited strength too, as you can use your whole body instead of just your arms to operate it.

http://www.cyclaire.com/ are the only small pump I've found thats worth carrying. Does 120psi with ease.

Match the tape to the brand decals of the frame. I've a black condor italia with silver lettering now with matching bar tape and silver/grey bontangers and its the bees knees.
Otherwise the big cheese star grips cut to fit where you want to grip look nice on most bikes. See http://www.revolutionbicyclerepair.com/catalog/bigcheese-grips-black-white.jpg. Mrs N has them on her fuji in matching red with white stars. -

This lovely Dolan is ending today http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=180117060952&rd=1&rd=1. Its gone above my budget at the moment unfortunately.

Make sure its not a suicide hub. If it is a road hub running a freewheel get him to through in the free wheel fitting tool (if you still want the bike). I think its ok for 300 if its got a proper track hub on the rear, reasonably good tires/chain and all the bearings are in good order. If any of these things are off I'd ask for 20 off the price for each fault.

The wife’s in New York and I want her to get me a new bag to:
A) carry my gear for work and the gym [inc large pads and boxing gloves],
B) carry my 17" laptop in all weather
C) take on the plain with me for weekend trips
What bag do I need? I don't want day-glow stuff. I have no preference to buying online or if anyone knows a cheap shop in NY she should check out. All suggestions welcome.
£100 is my max budget. -
Simular thing happened to me yesterday with a bus pulling out into me. I beeped a bit with my air horn and he did the 'who me?' shoulders in his mirror. So I cycled behind him until he stopped at the next bus stop, whereupon I slowly cycled up to his open driver window and as he was engrossed taking money from commuters yelled in his ear as loud as I could 'you fucking blind wanker cunt'. He saw me then but I had already cycled on and he was trapped behind a bus and the moving lane of traffic. Made me feel better.

Are the clubs inset into the frame or just stickers and are the lugs as decorative as on their steel frames.
Colnago are one of the only european frames I think really do nice lugs and would consider buying (I prefere lugless). If it is less decorative (as it appears from the picture) it would leave me a bit cold and feeling cheated if I owned it. If I got one I'd want all the trimmings of a Colnago and possibly a flag that said look at my lovely Colnago lugs.
I agree with the centiment that bike are made for riding regardless of the pricetag so don't get the nay sayers negativity in this tread. Supporting high level craftmanship is a good thing!)
