have a look at: *http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=13416
- i've uploaded your proposed route to a more detailed route site. if you look at the OSMCycle tab, you'll find where the pubs and rest stops are, and where the major elevation points are on the route. that should help a bit.

wow. that's a mighty commute and chapeau to you for deciding to do it on a bike. make sure that you also let your muscles rest and recover occasionally and take the train in. maybe mid-week. i know it's probably not the best advice but ~225 miles of commuting a week will start to wreak havoc on your muscles and your man parts.

so oxford was fun.
might try this one next sunday if anyone's up for it:

you're a weekend cycling machine, Matt! sadly busy on sunday, but looks like a good route. there are some very steep climbs/descents on that route, so if you're going fixed, be careful.

Is it me or is the doping side of cycling being brushed under the carpet this year? You hear very little mention of Vinokourov, Ricco, Rasmussen etc. in the coverage. Sort of elephant in the room or unhelpful and irrelevant info?
If it is the case that there's a two speed race, between the clean riders and the dopers then why ignore it. To hear people say 'I'm glad Brad had a shit day, shows his clean' sort of undermines the performance of all those who do not have any bad days.
Vinokourov and Rasmussen have both been pretty visible in the media. Vino wanting to come back to Astana (and what that will mean for the credibility of that team) and Rasmussen wants to come back as soon as his ban expires on the 25th of july. and the reaction to diluca's positive at the giro has also been quite heavily criticised by organisers and riders in the tour.
i also found myself in slight disbelief at contador's performance yesterday; but that is more my flaw as a spectator watching a sport that i love that is also linked so closely with doping.
