Exactly, also with BMW so I am sure similar across other manufacturers reasons for it not switching the vehicle off are;
Battery charge low-- it will always make sure the battery is sufficiently charged before allowing switch off.Air con function -- windscreen fogging sensors will keep the engine running if the windscreen still needs demisting.
Air Con-- if the customer has set a temperature for the interior cabin it will keep running until this has been achieved.Emissions if the Catalyst (petrol) or DPF (diesel) are not up to efficient operating temperature it will keep the engine running until it is.
If any system on the car is doing something that requires the engine running it won't switch off.
Reasons it will restart while switched off;
Releasing the brake.
Releasing the clutch
Steering input to power up power steering.
Battery level dropping.These are the most popular reasons. :)

stock?? funny way of spelling 'shit' :D
@Constable_Savage If it is registered VW Beetle Allegro they may have made the kit car using the Beetle chassis and running gear, easy to lower by reconfiguring the splined spring set up.
But Allegro of all things they were nicknamed 'All Aggro' for a reason :) -
Firstly the top two or three lines are aerials not part of the HRW :)
You can check it with a voltmeter see if you are getting 12v one side and a good earth the other, it will only work with the engine running and if the battery state is poor it will switch it off to allow better battery charging.
Common faults are wires braking in the rubber sleeve by the tailgate hinge

Matt at ETA motorsport in West Kingsdown does a good repair and reinforcement of rear subframe floor pans on them

@Dammit @Soul I agree when I was at BMW we had a 4wd X5, a 4wd Mini Countryman and a 2wd Mini Countryman on the sales fleet, the 2wd Mini had a set of winter tyres on, the two 4wd drive cars on normal tyres were left stranded trying to get up the slope to the car park while the 2wd Mini on winter tyres sailed up there with no problems.
Worth every penny in my opinion :) -
Came across a few of these at BMW, ironically they came in for electrical faults under warranty and communication bus faults with the instrument cluster, as soon as I pulled the cluster to check the wiring I found the small modules fitted, they basically take the speed/distance input signal and manipulate it to a lower reading.
Disconnected it to fix the car and they rang him to say his warranty was now void on certain items and in one of the cases the lease company took the vehicle back :D
Mileage is often stored in a few different control units these days and can throw up manipulation faults as that speed signal is used in so many things engine/gearbox management etc

@jonny @nefarious I have been Openeo for my tyres now, had some issues with Black Circle kept delivering the wrong size and then three instead of four, Openeo have been reliable and good value, plus 15" tyres are getting harder to find :)

Not to bad the four pot brakes made a difference, almost 10% better efficiency on the MOT test rollers :) I don't go too mad in it.
Best 0-60mph with a draggy app box was 6.9 seconds and that was with a bit of wheel spin in first and second as it was damp, 20-60 is the sweet spot I have stayed with a few E36 M3's in that range the low down 300nm torque make it really easy to drive.
Just have to be careful in the wet ;)I do have a new 40mm lowered set up to go on it then the suspension on that will be swapped over to the 318i :)
-
@nefarious standard 318i Lach Silver Touring.

and my sleeper 335i Touring with the M30 b3.5 big six engine from an E34, M-Tech 2 spoiler kit, 40mm lowered sport suspension, purple tag rack, Mazda RX7 four pot caliper brake upgrade for the front, Custom stainless steel exhaust system from Kevin at Zero Exhausts Bethersden. :D

I have crackle black manifold and rocker cover to go on plus a black leather interior which I am repairing, using Furniture Clinic products.

@Fox Upgrading speakers is fairly easy. Best to upgrade to decent speaker wire as well
I would recommend Alpine stuff as really good.My stereo is only 50 watts per channel but the speakers can handle 200 watts plus a 300 watt amp running a 400watt Subwoofer in the boot, spare wheel turned upside down and fits in that space, the bumpers start rattling before the speakers do :)
Check car audio security, they sell dynamat sound deadening as well, check their vehicle specific list for direct replacements with no need for adjustments.http://caraudiosecurity.com/speakers-subs-1/manufacturer-alpine

Try the BMW forums BMWLand, Pistonheads BMW section. I don't really buy and sell them to be honest, 740i are usually a high spec model so should sell well if running well.
