agreed we have all seen what timid cycling gets you in hospital, or worse.
Chris, I don't want to get into an argument over semantics, but I think you need to define timid and exactly how being easily frightened will land you in hospital.
Reckless riding could easily be defined as backing yourself to beat a left-signalling truck away from the lights. That's what Seb did (well, that's my guess - what other explanation could there be?) and he was killed.

Women cyclists are far more likely to be killed by a lorry because, unlike men, they tend to obey red lights and wait at junctions in the driver’s blind spot, according to a study.*This is NOT what the study said at all. That is speculation by the journalist.
Here are the actual stats:
*from 1999 - May 2004:
87 deaths of cyclists of which 21 were female, 66 male.Of those 21 females an astonishing 18 (85%) were killed by HGV drivers.
Another 28 of the males (around 50%) were also killed by HGVs.*
*No conclusions were, or could be, drawn regarding whether or not red light jumping contributed or otherwise to the numbers of cyclists killed. There was no survey of the number of cyclists jumping red lights, broken down by sex attached to the report. In some of the cases there was consideration of the circumstances, but not all, because some of the files relating to the cases were not available to the LRSU researcher. Therefore all of the media comment yesterday was just that: comment.
I recall that at the time we were shown the report, members of the group speculated as to why females, and someone, possibly me, possibly someone else, speculated that it was because female cyclists tend to be more submissive on the road, and generally more law-abiding. And it’s possible that someone, again, possibly me, would have mentioned that Seb would probably still be alive today if he had NOT stopped at the red light alongside Terence Fallow’s tipper truck. But again, the speculation was just that: speculation.*

If you go via Newhaven, it's a lot shorter, and the route is a LOT nicer than riding to Dover. Avoiding the A2 is a major pain, and adds around 30 miles. London to Newhaven is around 90k. It's an easy ride from Dieppe to Paris (not totally flat, but NOWHERE in France is totally flat, apart from the Crau and Camargue), and about 140k. I can't recall, but I think there is a night ferry (around 4 hours) so you can maybe ride down on Friday, overnight on the ferry, and the knock off the Frog leg on Saturday.

+1, not a good idea
best thing is to ring the police, they know it happens, the more reported incidents there are the more likely it is they can do something about it

These kids might be off the Marquis estate - if they are, then they are probably responsible for 90% of the bike theft in the Upper St/Essex Road are, and they are seriously nasty. Take one on, and you'll more than likely have 10 or more after you. Unless you are Bruce Lee that means you are looking a long stay in the hospital.

So are we saying that not only are Rapha overpriced, made in China, but also stole their logo? Really!?! frickin eck. I'm so disappointed.
No, you said that.
Anyone with even the most casual interest in the history of continental road racing would know that the logo was an omage to greatest era of the sport.
Oh, and the Smash Rapha shirt is BY HOP, not Rapha. It refers to... oh, never mind.

is it fundamentally wrong to have it re-sprayed with a different logo on it? will anyone notice? has anyone here done it?
Are you planning to resell it? Then it's wrong. Although if you tried to resell it to someone who knew their stuff, then you would get laughed at.
I don't understand why you would want to put another brand on it. I put a Columbus Brain sticker on my polo beater (which is actually Tange or whatever RB-1s were made of), but that was for a laugh.
Repraying I can understand - putting a different name transfer I really don't.

Other way around.
