Don't you just load thumbnails when there's "many" attachments? If you're really loading the full image, can we have some js enhancement so we're not opening a new tab to view them?
- The thumbnails are the full pics
- We do not have a thumbnail generator at all
- Progressive loading breaks "jump to latest" as it triggers "scrolling past images" and loads images above pushing the jump point lower
- Thumbnail generator services were expensive (Cloud service)
- Thumbnail generator services were complex and a security risk (local files and ImageMagick)
- At the time this was all built the image size was moderate
- The thumbnails are the full pics

Yeah... they have 2 gates on petitions:
- You need 5 sponsors and then it has to be checked for "compliance to standards"
- Once you get to 20-25 people signing it then it has to be fully checked for standards.
It's my own fault as I started a petition years ago and it had lots of people vote for it and so now they prevent petitions they consider irrelevant by gating them on reviews.
My original petition was admittedly frivolous:
We, the people of Britain, feel that our current National Anthem has lost a bit of its sparkle.
When we are confronted by the rare occasion of us winning a medal at the Olympics, we all have to mumble through "God Save The Queen", well God help us in 2012!
We would thereby like to table the suggestion that we change the National Anthem to something more modern and appropriate and that will re-invigorate our pride.
What we specifically want to see, is that the National Anthem be changed in favour of "Gold" by Spandau Ballet.
Further, we would like our National Olympic Committee to decree that Tony Hadley is the only person permitted to handle medal ceremonies where the National Anthem is played.
We don't mind what he wears when he does this, but preference is given towards a a gold colured suit.
I was called a lunatic for that, but this new petition is actually far more serious and urgent.

we're busy sending warships to "bolster" security... not much point giving someone a tent if it needs to be pitched on rubble, bread and water if we're about to drop another shell on them, medical equipment if they're dead.
we've got to stop hurting them before we can start thinking that applying a bandage is going to help.

sick of my govt... so I made a petition... I need co-sponsors, i.e. at least 5 people to sign it, I was even willing to put my effing name on it:
I’ve made a petition – will you sign it?
Click this link to sign the petition:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/648746/My petition:
Do not participate, or otherwise support, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine
The UK Gov should take strong steps to ensure that the UK is not complicit in ethnic cleansing by participating or support the siege and blockade of Palestine, or contributing any military assistance or weapons that further the crisis, instead we should actively provide humanitarian assistance.
Hamas is a terrorist organisation that represents a tiny minority of the people of Palestine. Yet the people of Palestine are subject to a siege by one of the most militarily capable nations on Earth. This is a humanitarian crisis where people lack food, shelter, energy, and medical equipment. Israel has take a position that historically indicates that they will expand territory and cause great suffering, many will die and the UK should avoid getting blood on our collective hands.

the PC uses almost the same amount of power whilst just ripping a CD, as it does whilst playing games
beyond a bright laptop monitor, the major sources of power use:
- GPU (gaming or other sustained GPU load)
- optical drives (high speed motors and lasers!)
I hadn't considered other people run optical drives still, but I do for ripping music and video, and yes they consume a very healthy amount of power. Typically they have their own power supply, but if not they tend to use 2 USB ports at a time and try to draw max power from both.

Power management on Windows is typically very good out of the box on the defaults, yeah you can squeeze a little more from it but it tends to surpass even Macs.
Beyond the obvious (dimming the screen of a laptop as a display brightly lit uses a high % of the power) the difference is not usually the power management settings, but what software is running. Windows can include a degree of bloat or convenience things, and the more software that is running the more the power is sapped.
For example, Edge browser is probably running in the background even if you're using Firefox or Chrome, and you need to start Edge and then go to
Settings > Systems and Performanceand then disableStartup boostandContinue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed... doing that stops one huge executable from loading when the OS starts and permanently running in the background. If you're going to go down any rabbit hole for improvements, using task manager to identify what is running and asking why it is running and doing something about it will yield far greater improvement than tweaking the power management settings whilst all of that stuff runs.

my point is that in this dystopian future, the Turing test fails in the face of generative AI, but yet what a human can answer that an AI cannot is mostly determined by the censoring of replies that would look bad to the PR department of these large tech companies... so the new Turing test is to ask for a simple answer that would breach that censorship.
this point has been made before btw, it's not my idea.

Have bought another cat bed... the one we originally purchased from https://www.cheshireandwain.com/ has been used daily for almost 2 years and the cats have gone from being very small creatures to much larger creatures, so the 2nd one means there's now going to be another place for them to sleep.
They're £90, which is a lot, but it's used daily and still looks like new after it's been lint-rollered, so it's kinda worth it in the longevity game.

Israel wants to imprison anyone in Israel who questions what they're doing and "harms morale"
