Their stuff is incredible. I've got a quite a bit of stuff from them, but nearly always in their sales.
If you sign up the email list you get emails about new products (resist!) and also about sales (give in!).
I'm not sure their fixed shorts are worth the money even though I have a pair. I wear my Chrome ones far more frequently as they're tons more comfortable and the amount of pocket space is occasionally extremely useful.

Sheldon Brown on the Harris Cyclery site says it's possible to use cross levers without the drop levers, though I couldn't find any examples of this being done or an indication of what should be done with the excess cable. There's no internal cable-end grip on cross levers, and that's the bit that would make me feel good. I flip flop and if I'm riding single-speed my front brake is all I've got. Knowing that even a bumbled install would still stop you is kinda necessary for me (says he who hath bungled several such simple tasks over the years).
-
beatznbobbz:I'm also currently looking to put a front brake on my bike (I'm new to fixed riding and am still setting up my ride) and have generally found that bmx levers are too small for my bars (I also use Nitto Bulls). I've just ordered some Cane Creek Cyclocross levers from Wiggle which should *fingers-crossed* fit, without having to use a hose-clip as I'm doing with an old MX lever :-P
Are these the Cane Creek levers?
http://www.canecreek.com/crosstop_lvr.htmlIt says that they're of the pass-through variety to be used alongside existing brifters/levers... are you just going to cut off excess cable and hope there's no slippage?
-
Are there any?
I'm looking for something along the lines of Chicago's Wig company... a little informal shop where you can walk in with an idea and the place can knock it out pretty quick and not be outrageously priced.

Just found this gorgeous leather top tube protector at a mere $12 it would be worth it even with P&P.
http://www.velo-orange.com/toptupr.html
Really simple, and I prefer the idea of a piece of leather over a Kashimax protector.

I was going to suggest something on the river, but trackstanding there might mean a soaking. Perhaps not a great idea, I doubt any of us wants to lift our bike out of the clay banks of the Thames.
That said, the South Bank might be a great place to look for a bar with enough lock up space to accomodate us in the summer evenings.
-
I've been using the Nitto bullhorns for a while. My first choice of bars since acquiring a gear-less bike, they make me feel like I'm riding on the hoods of a pair of Campagnolo Ergolever brifters :)
Increasingly I've been using the centre of the bars near the stem, longing for a brake up there rather than the TT style lever on the end of the right-bullhorn.
So yesterday I placed an order with Will @ Hubjub for the Nitto B-123AA bars so I can ride the centre and the drops.
A few questions now...
What do you all use and find most comfortable? Have you tried both horns and drops?
On the brake front, should I just be looking for a BMX lever for my front brake?
Why is it that front brakes are fixed to the left hand? Is it just so that with a single brake you can still signal right?
My bullhorns didn't strike the top tube flat on when the bars were turned, does having drops make a top tube protector more essential?
Does anyone have the Brooks leather bar tape, and is it worth the money? -
beatznbobbz:anyone else looking forward to the new Rough Trade shop/venue thingy up near Brick Lane? I'm in serious danger of ending up in financial dire straits if I start visiting that on a regular basis…
I hadn't heard about this, but just asked on a music forum I'm on and got given this link:
http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/news/article2393338.eceIt sounds utterly awesome. I've been to Amoeba in both LA and San Francisco, and both are great stores... if the London Rough Trade can come anywhere near those, we'll all be bankrupt.
Thank God that there's no bike shop equivalent of that size and quality in London... can you imagine how bad things would be if we could get absolutely any bike part at a reasonable price?

You have two options when wanting to get photos onto this site.
Option 1 (preferred):
- Click reply when responding to a post or thread, to use the larger WYSIWYG entry text box.
- Either click the upload a file link in the bottom left of the text entry box and that will give you a popup window to allow you to upload files.
- Then either upload the pictures directly from your computer, or from a mobile phone.
Option 2:
- Click the image button above the text entry box.
- Enter the URL of a remotely hosted image. Note that this image must already be on the internet somewhere (not your computer) and that the URL must be to the image itself... it should end in .jpg, .png, .gif or .svg
That's it.
Why is option 1 preferred?
- The image will be permanently available even though the remote website may be down.
- The site remains fast even when a remote website may be slow.
How to enter the syntax?
You have a few options, if you're good with HTML, then use an
<img>tag, it will work.Or use Markdown:
Here's how to add links and images using Markdown, and how to combine the two.
https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#link
Hyperlinks go in (), and to indicate where the text to be hyperlinked starts and ends [] is used.
Hence a link is:
[the text to link](https://example.org/)https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#img
Images are still links and go in () and you may still have some text for the image tag which can go in [], and to say it should be an image start with a !

Then if you want it without the hover text:

And finally combining the two.
A link
[](http://destination)and an imagewould be[](http://destination)because the link wraps the image.[](http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/el-reys-colnago-tecnos2000-7204)Finally, if you're crazy or something... you can still use BBCode and
[img]tags... though I won't guarantee that will always work. - Click reply when responding to a post or thread, to use the larger WYSIWYG entry text box.

Such modesty:

Dolan Track bike, Ambrosio rims on Phil Wood hubs, Chris King Headset, Sugino 75 cranks, Fiz'ik saddle, Nitto flat bullhorns. All self-built, including the wheels. (32h, 3x. I did want to do 2l2t on the front, but couldn't get the right length spokes)
"Some Dolan pursuit thing" eh?

This evening is glorious. Deserted streets, no wind to speak of, the right temperature to keep you cool when you're spinning away.
I just shot past my home because it was so nice, ended up in Richmond. No matter.
I think I love night riding more than anything. Such a blast when the only sound to speak of is the soft hum from tyre against tarmac and gentle whirring from the drivetrain.
Seeing how the Dunwich Dynamo came about is obvious. If tonight had a healthy dose of moonlight I would've ended up in Surrey.
We should seriously do some night rides some time. Laps of the centre of London with a café or two thrown in for espresso shots and cakes.

Is there such a thing?
The perfect bar would:
- have a beer garden with enough space to allow the bikes to be locked in it and staff friendly enough to let you.
- be somewhere within 10 minutes (by bike) of the West End.
- not be too severe on the wallet.
- sell half decent food.
Anything else? And more importantly, is there such a place?
- have a beer garden with enough space to allow the bikes to be locked in it and staff friendly enough to let you.

Freecycle is a phenomenon, the idea is simply if there's something you don't want and don't want the hassle of selling via eBay, recycle it by giving it to someone who does want it.
It's not a trade thing, you don't have to get something back to give something away... nor do you need to give something just to get something.
Anyhow, this thread is for that... getting rid of old bike gear by offering it up to others who want it... or asking for something that you might need.
First up:
OFFERED: Fizik Arione Saddle in Black. Great condition, seldom used.
Anyone who needs a decent saddle, let me know and we'll arrange to meet up sometime.

Two at the moment having disposed of a Trek and a Cannondale in recent months...
This Bob Jackson:
http://velospace.org/node/1163And this Serotta:
http://velospace.org/node/580The Serotta is for club rides, long distances, the Surrey Hills and when the weather is extremely wet (I have fenders that fit the Serotta but not the Bob Jackson).
The Bob Jackson is about to get some things replaced, the wheels for sure but perhaps the bars too.

http://www.goodfridaymeeting.org.uk/
OK, What's the deal with this? Anyone been to one before?
Is it a take-food and booze, sit and watch racing thing? Space enough to lock our bikes?
And finally... who's going down, and do you like the idea of meeting up for the day or afterwards?

I am a member, but have only posted a couple of times (I kept to my club forum more than the magazine ones). I've started a thread letting them know about this place, and a few have come over already.
Not sure about PM'ing everyone... happy to do it when I've posted somewhere quite a bit, but don't want to slip over the line between promoting and spamming.
Hmmm... we should start a viral campaign to get this place going properly... so much potential, yet so easy for it to stall and falter in the early days. Who's up for putting links to http://www.londonfgss.com/ in their signatures of other forums? Things like that work when people who post regularly do them... less so when a virtual stranger comes in and tries it.

Hehe, resistance is futile!
The material is dead nice though, and slightly water resistant (shower proof I think the phrase is).
Watch out for the buttons on the bottom of the leg though, consider them aesthetic only. If the wind picks up, don't attempt to do up the buttons to make it tighter... they'll pop off and you'll lose them.
There's something about buttons, no-one ever sews them on in a really solid way.
