If you can spring for a Fairlight you should justify good mudguards.
PDW are easiest to fit and last well. Berthoud are cheaper and last well but fiddly to fit. Both pairs of VO mudguards I’ve had have cracked even if I use leather washers. Honjo are to delicate for me, more for a show bike IMO. SKS Square shape metal guards wobble like a wet noodle.

After using all the listed above I’ve bought PDW guards again for my latest build. My wife who only rides occasionally got Kinesis fend off mudguards at £50. Shame they’re only 50mm
